I am not worried about the E Draft. We will need to lose someone . I think it is fine that we have that that many good players that we can not protect everyone.
I also think that major trades are less likely to happen. I don't see us giving up any more firsts.
I think if we were to try to make an impact trade it would cost a lot like Madden Gaudette Podk Hoglander ( one or more than one)
I expect Marky to be re-signed . I think Tanev or Stech will be moved but Tanev could return.
Leivo and Pearson are still growing one me . I am not sure how much more needs to be done. Maybe relax and see wat this year brings , reevaluate and tweak. - VANTEL
Canucks may actually have a salary cap problem if this season continues the way it is.
Gaudette will get a small raise. Leivo and Virtanen if continue and put up near 40 points which they are on pace for. They aren't taking 1.5 again.
A pair of Lou/i cap hits are going to hurt for the next two years. |

The Bruins give out a brutal contract to Charlie Coyle. 5.25 for a career 40 point player.
Doesn't help Van's case for Virtanen or Leivo.
Can't be giving out 6.44% to a third liner. |

No Rodion Amirov at the Russian WJC camp. Historically, the team shies away from draft-eligible kids, but I figured he'd get a look at camp.
Vasily Podkolzin is of course there as a returning player.
---------------
3 points in 7 games last season for Podz at the WJC. |

I wouldn't let go of the 1st and 3rd. But look what we got, happy to be wrong on this. - VanHockeyGuy
Sadly, next year he could be an absolute (frank)en bust. |

If you want to look at it that way, those picks may never become NHL players. |

So true.
I enjoy the freak outs after.
There are so many ways it could turn out.
The only thing that will let us know is time. |

JTM's still young, but old enough to help the kids out. I think he'll get better as the stakes get higher. |

Given what we know about NHL skater aging based on various methods and approaches (which I covered in more detail in part 1), I find it very interesting that this WAR model, for the most part, lines up with the generally held belief that skaters peak around 24-25 years old and decline gradually after that (there does seem to be some indication here that the decline of players over 30 might not be as steep as is often assumed). While some of the individual components do not show this, the EV Overall WAR and Overall WAR numbers do – I might argue they strengthen this notion. As we get more data, these curves may change, but for right now EV Overall WAR and Overall WAR seem to support what we already know. From an aging perspective, this metric makes sense. In my opinion, that alone lends credence to its validity.

I just find this really hard to believe that players peak at 24-25 other than that's when they mature and stop thinking about only scoring but playing a 200' game will win more titles.
Some players don't peak until 26 |

I think the term "peak" is misleading. Indicates they decline (sharply) after that, where most players just plateau for a few years...? And like you said, they round their game out more and realize what else you have to do to win games. Whatevers. I think JT Miller is a great add at the right time for this club |

I would say the same. I think there are ebb and flows in players careers. To try and lump them all together when all players are different is a hard. Different teams, systems, coaches, can be changed.
Kane just put his best NHL statically at age 30. |

I see the numbes but am not concerned. 17 mil with 14 players. I imagine the cap will go up by 2 mil (average) and Canucks will probably buy out Sven saving another 1.6.
That gives them a little over 20 mil.
I think Marky will get 6 mil
Stecher will be replaced with Rafferty at 700K
Fatburger back for a mil.
Zack replaces Schaller @700k
Jake 1.5
Lievo 1.8
This all ads up to close to 12 mil with a 20 man roster leaving you 8 mil to sign two players like Barrie or Tanev and a prospect ? |

Benning said this offseason that they had different cap scenarios all planned out, and it seems so far they have it managed. I hope after LE gets his next bonus he gets traded or goes on LTIR.
Don't want them to go after any more high priced UFAs. They'll have to pay Petey then Hughes, and don't want to tie up some long-term contracts that will diminish before they're ready to truly compete. |

You make it sound so easy
I can't see Jake and Josh taking 300K raises only.
Sutter and Loui to the minors would allow about 10 million in cap space. Upon further review. Even allowing raises to Virtanen and leaving to jump to 700K and Gaudette at 1.3
Man, I've got to be missing something that the Canucks could have 10 million in cap space with only 3 spots available. Which would probably be entry levels. So 6 million when all said and done.

Was that before or after he said that Luongo's re-capture caught them off guard? |
