Here's the deal:

To Pitts:

Toffoli
Hutton

To LA

Galch
Rikky
Addison
2nd round pick

- MattStrat

You're down on Addison that much? Also, are you getting Hutton just for the purposes of waiving him to the AHL? Even so, you're still on the hook for ~1.75M for this year and next.

Edit: Wrong Hutton.

This is much more reasonable.

Kind of reminded me of the 2010 Habs. Get outplayed for the most part (other than stretches of the 2nd) but still win.

Remember in game 7 when they knocked us out in 2010, and the shots were 18-2 Pittsburgh in the third period, but Montreal won the period 1-0.

And all series they kept getting outplayed but they would throw a puck from the corner boards at an impossible angle and it would hit 4 skates and go in?

Maybe it's just me, but for as long as I can remember, Montreal always seems to be able to get outplayed and outchanced but win enough games somehow.

Yes...that is how Montreal has always won games during your lifetime.

There’s just as good a chance Addison is never an NHL regular that there is he becomes a 2nd pair PP specialist. It’s a risk you take if you think Toffoli helps you win the cup.

Don't all HDSC counts as SC, or are they tracked separately?
- jmatchett383

Definitions are a little different between SCs and HDs

Not gonna disagree, and I agree that the Pens should be all-in for the present. Just not sure I'd include him unless Hutton is really worth it.

Okay. I just thought that a HDSC was a type of SC (i.e. all HDSC's are SC's, not all SC's are HDSC's.). Thanks for clarifying.

It does seem like there is some crossover, where any unblocked SA from the blue would fall under both.

Yup pretty much. From what I have heard, they dominated the NHL for ages.. but when I started following hockey in the early 90's it all started with them winning the Stanley Cup while getting outplayed the entire playoffs. Patrick Roy was insane. And ever since, I always seem to see them have this team with no star power, a bunch of grinders, and they have been soooo good for years at winning games they have no business winning. Most opportunistic team in history. I want to know the secret lol

Any chance you have a link to that article, I'd love to read it.

I don't see why teams going no where like LA would want Galchenyuk, unless it's a throw in to make salaries fit for Toffoli and they feel they can give him more time and flip him later.

Also Pittsburgh Hockey now names Buffalo as interested and potentially Chicago since they continue to send Scouts to Pittsburgh.

They may not have any superstar "generational" talents, but they've had guys like Koivu (underrated), Kovalev, Markov, Recchi, Damphousse, and Turgeon. I wouldn't call that "no star power." I'd agree they may not be the sexiest names in the world, and the more recent teams have relied of guys like Weber, MaxPac, Gallagher, and Drouin which is definitely on the lower end. But no, I don't think they're a bunch of unskilled grinders who win on luck every time.

That's how I feel. The idea of getting Toffoli is his value is low, I usually see articles saying the Kings would be lucky to get a 3rd. Addison plus a 2nd seems like a massive overpayment. I was thinking Galchenyuk and a 3rd or 4th.

Thanks! Carolina has also scouted us alot and I think I read we don't play them until March. I can't see why they'd help each other though. Carolina does have a bad PP last I checked so maybe his spot is open there.

I can see the reasoning of the Kings or Ducks just giving him a look and I h fits they can try and sign him or at least flip him for more value later after he fills a hole for now, like Namestikov in Ottawa. I'm assuming they wouldn't give much to do it.

keep trading away your youth and higher picks. I get the window is now or never, but crosby has cup rings. No not getting younger, be careful as your franchise is getting ready to take a massive hit. JR has traded to cover for bad trades the last few years. And yes...some work out.....but .......

I’m cool with dark years. Bettman will just rig the draft for us again next time when there’s a generational talent available and the pens are nearly bankrupt. We’ll be aight.

I'm fine with selling off assets and I'd like Toffoli in a Pens jersey, but not at the cost of Addison.

I'll gladly trade the previous 12 years and next 8 years of the Flyers for those of the Penguins.

I dont get the fascination with Toffoli. I'd be cool adding him for a mid rounder but I dont see him being a major difference maker.

I still think MIN is a team to watch as we get closer to the deadline and I'd also be looking towards CHI. Gustafsson would be a nice get for LD if he becomes available as a rental.

Toffoli is a very solid player. He's solid on transition which important for the way this team plays and he's very good at generating offense for everyone. He may not Guentzel on a line with Geno, but he'd definitely be an upgrade to other wingers Geno has played with over the past few years (excluding Phil).

Regardless of what a lot of folks here think about him, I believe GMJR is actively pursuing NO dark years.

Yea Toffoli is an okay player, but I think people tend to overrate him given the team he played on that won the Cup. He's only been over 50 points once in his career and this year is not playing well.

0 reason to trade Addison for him IMO.
