I think we have to embrace the possibility of trading Strome more and more as he keeps up close to a ppg pace. There's no way I'm paying Strome 7-8 million on a long term deal and Chytil is already proving he can hold 2C down. Though it's kind of funny that we couldn't get a 3rd for Strome before the season and now it's not unreasonable to think that you could get a 1st and a solid younger piece back now. - 2sticks1puck
if Strome was willing to sign an extension like Zib got, 5.3 mil a year for 5 years or so, I am very willing to do it
I would hope he would consider it, he's finally found a place where he can thrive, knowing Panarin will be here the whole time

I think that we would all love that. I just think any agent worth his salt will look at the Hayes contract and use that as a baseline for a new contract. There is no doubt that Hayes has been the more consistent player in his career, but 70 points would eclipse anything Hayes had ever done and Strome would be hitting the market and would have had 150 games (counting to the end of this season) of high level play. Unless he was super serious about staying here, I'm just not seeing it.
Since Strome is a RFA like Zib, our best case scenario might involve signing him for like 2 years at the Zib level. That actually not be the worst outcome either, because by then you'd hope not only Chytil continued to progress, but 1-2 of our younger centers could be ready to log heavy minutes too. I know it's only the Ivy League, but Barron continues to impress and should have had at least 1 AHL season in 2 years. |

The fact that any ranger fan can hate signing Panarin with how great he has been will never make sense to me - TPC

I think the team should sell, I just don't see if we keep hanging around, especially if we put together a winning period, that we really can. What worries me is that if we do start winning, the team will start buying. - 2sticks1puck
Thats the problem, if we start buying pieces, in order to get those pieces, we will be trading the assets we just acquired. It would kinda contradict this whole rebuild thing.
Then of course we will be stuck in rebuild hell. |

yeah, we could have let the Islanders have him and then signed him in 7 years, would have been better - jimbro83
I would want nothing more than to say to you that you are right if the Rangers win the Cup within the time of Panarins contract. I would bow to you Jimmy and say you were right!!

I dont think I will have to worry about it happening. Panarin will wind up with over 600 points as a Ranger, but will he win a Cup? Time will tell!! |

I don't think that's necessarily true. Of course, it depends what players you're trading for...but stockpiling assets to use them as currency to speed up your rebuild doesn't really clash with the concept of rebuilding.
Using them to buy 30yo players wouldn't be smart, but if there's a situation where you can acquire a younger, established player using some of the prospects they've selected then I don't see how that does anything other than make the rebuild move faster. |
