Apropos of nothing:
We (or, at least, Boomers like me) grew up on whole milk - I can’t drink skim or 2% or whatever. It was part of “this good breakfast” (cereal, two eggs, bacon, whole milk - those were the commercials).
My granddaughters (7 and 4) hate the taste of whole milk - won’t drink it. - StLBravesFan
I actually can’t stand homogenized, 1% or skim, I grew up on 2% and it’s all I can drink. One of my granddaughters drinks 1% but when she’s over she drinks 2% to antagonize me. |

Sage and Oldman, valid point(s) about the rebuild and while my point wasn’t addressing that, I’m on board to discuss. As Hawk fans we should realize the team is currently in the lower part of the standings because of the team’s incredible success.
As for the rebuild I have no idea if Bowman and Colliton are, or are not, the right guys? Bowman’s done some very good things and not so good things in his time as GM. If I could think of a GM who was perfect and made all the correct moves while making no bad ones I’d point to him as the next GM the Hawk’s should target. What Bowman hasn’t done, yet, is show he can build a team to contend. But the Great Uncle Dale had never built a contending team, until he built the Blackhawks. I think Bowman deserves some time to try to get the Hawks turned around. But if he can’t, then, like anyone in any line of work he has to be relieved of his duty for someone else to try to make the Hawk’s a contender. Like Oldman I’d be interested to see if Mark Hunter would be that man. - paulr
Paul, Mark Hunter is OK but apparently you and Oldduffman have forgotten that Brian Burke is sitting in Toronto in waiting for a job with the Hawks. The posters on here would love and approve of him, even if they never made the playoffs. His hockey philosophy fits perfectly:
" I don't like flag football, I like teams that bang".
" Hockey is a man's game. The team with the most real men wins".
" We require as a team levels of pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence".

The offer sheets would have the assistant GM standing at the Fax machine and you would think reminding the GM when they must be sent. That was definitely a conspiracy. - rpeters01
All I know is if they hire any of the internal puppets within this organization to be the. GM it will nothing more than Stan Bowman part 2 all over again.

You have a point, I like what he did with the Leafs. He traded away Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton for that two way leader Phil “prospector” Kassel. He told us all how great the Leafs were, how they had the best defense and smart he was. |

Paul, the Hawks have no valid excuses for their current plight.
Remember when the Canadiens, Islanders, Oilers and Devils were great - they declined into mediocrity for a reason - there was no Hockeybuzz to refer to for great ideas and correct solutions. But that's not the case now. If McD and Rocky and Bowman had paid attention starting in 2016 to what the posters on this site were recommending they would still be a contender and not in salary cap jail. They ignored all of it and are now paying a high price. - RickJ
I'm hoping that when Stan finally gets his just desserts for making this team a laughing stock he's replaced from within (this board)...maybe Taylor. |

Or Edzo the tatt boy. It would be fun seeing him attempt to build a team based on wind direction. |

Funny because my nephew, who only drinks skim at home, immediately asks for milk every time he’s at my house because he knows we have the good stuff. |

Grammar, spelling and punctuation have become totally overrated now. Pretty soon reading skills will be filed in the ancient history box too. |

You’re right, Paul.
Question is - who is best to lead the rebuild, the renaissance - Bowman and Colliton, or....
(I can’t believe we’re re-litigating the contract submission screw-up of 10 years ago). - StLBravesFan

What is wrong with so many Blackhawk fans? Did any of you really think the team wasn't going to regress before it could move forward? Do/did you seriously believe a team that had all that success, had to move out prospects and draft picks to try to bolster the team to win or to stay cap compliant, who drafted later in the draft for close to 10 years could and who have a core of aging players whose best days/games are behind them would suddenly be any more than they currently are?
To all those wanting deperately to point fingers of blame, it's not Bowman, It's not Colliton or McD or the media or Toews or whomever. That's not to say any of the aformentioned are doing everything right and can't be critisized but the finger of blame should be pointed directly at what we as fans we so happy about, but apparantly took for granted, the blame is on Success, on 3 Stanley cups and on the best period in Chicago Blackhawk history.
Personally I'll sit back and enjoy the rebuild, hopefully I'll see a similar repeat on 2008 when we witnessed the Hawks turning a corner from a joke franchise to the premier team from 2009 to 2016. I find it much easier than whining, bellyaching and not understanding why the Hawks are where they are today. - paulr
Having sustained success for 6-7 years shouldn’t automatically mean your roster becomes complete garbage afterwards, without any possibility of retooling/maintaining that success.
You can’t assemble such a poor roster and then sit there and act like it’s all just bad luck/inevitable. That’s not how things work. There’s a GM in charge of making decisions and regardless of how much success you’ve had and how much you’ve gotta squeeze to fit under the cap that doesn’t excuse your GM from making poor ones.
There’s been plenty of talent that’s come through this organization in recent years that was wrongfully evaluated by our GM, and lost without getting equal value in return. This is a FACT. There’s also been some very silly contracts handed out to aging vets. Also a FACT. Am I supposed to accept those mistakes and brush them aside just because “well, we already won 3 Cups in a 6 year span that ended 5 years ago.” ???
There is definitely blame to go around. Definitely fingers to be pointed. And most of them should be pointing at the GM who assembled this current roster that’s lacking in speed and skill.

It’s called the truth. Our GM has assembled a garbage roster. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it. We’re awful and the man in charge of making the decisions that led us to this point, naturally, deserves to be blamed. |

Lombardi did the same thing in LA and they got rid of him and now there is talk of getting rid of the guy they hired after they got rid of him. LA is no closer than the Hawks to rebuild meaning they have so many old contracts they haven't started yet. |

Post of the month, however you will still not get through to most on this board, you can send this message until the cows come home, they will fail to get it. We are currently paying for our success, success that has not been attained since the Wings run prior to NHL cap, just not sustainable, all good things come to an end. Now we are a bubble team and the darn bubble is getting smaller every day. We need to keep adding good young assets whenever possible, so one day we can win another cup. Will we ever win three in seven years again? Probably not in my lifetime, not very likely in a cap world, that is reality. |
