worked with Stanley when he was promoted..... - SteveRain
It certainly did.
Some on the board automatically thought JC was a bad hire because he had no experience, now they want Stan gone and replaced by someone who has no experience. (Not directed at you). |

I was a huge Q fan....thought the narrative of him despising young guys was BS.
JC is not a NHL head coach.....today. Whatever system they are attempting at playing guys haven't bought in to (see Lehners quote on D being 5 on 5 in today's nHL), he doesn't have the right pieces, the system doesn't work even IF he had all the pieces, or all the above/some of the above/none of the above
Let him finish out the year....but move along. |

Just a random question for the board - If either Bob Murray or Doug Wilson got canned this season or this off-season, would you want either candidate to replace Stan? Do you think they would be any better? |

Top defenseman, and I think wore the ‘A’, for Finland’s victorious World Junior team last season. So he is, actually, a ‘world beater’. - scottak
Aside from what’re conflicts existed between player and team, the rationale for the deal was ok, IMO.
Several potential quality dmen in the system, no quality top-6 forwards.
So take a chance - move a good prospect for a former #3 overall pick with raw skills, still a rookie at 21.
Although a disappointment so far, Nylander still might grow into a top-6 producer.
I would say the virtual jury is leaning toward a guilty verdict, but is still deliberating. |

Tyler, FWIW, Hawks currently have 30 points. Dallas 4th in the Central at 39. Vegas 4th in the Pacific at 37. So Hawks need 8 points to get into a playoff spot. Not that it makes any difference. You may want to edit the blog. - boilermaker100

Doug Wilson in a heart beat.
Since 1997-98, they have missed the playoffs....2 times. |

Been saying for three years now that the Hawks are nowhere near out of cap hell.
The cap problem is why this team will not have a chance to contend until the 19/7/2/50 deals are off the books.
It is also why no decent GM or coach would touch this team with a 100 foot pole. Even if some decided to consider it, they will be plagued with the same issue Q and JC face now - not enough NHL caliber talent accompanying a fast fading core of former elite players.
Finally, it is why any decent player left on the team, or available in free agency would never consider staying or coming here.
The desire to make a media splash by signing 19/88 to their $10.5MM deals sooner than the RFA deadline required, a month before the Looney collapsed bringing the era of flat cap growth, proved to be the nails in the coffin for the future. To this day I find it hard to believe that a guy as wealthy as Wirtz doesn't have someone in his umbrella corp that watches markets and can forecast things. Proof again that you don't re-sign free agents until the deadline.
Until some of the albatross deals expire or get moved it is going to be more of the same - reclamation projects, "crafty veterans" a year or more beyond their expiration date, and an increasingly ineffective "core" of players whose disinterest, lack of heart, and trips to the penalty box drag the whole team down with them. |

Doug Wilson has been the SJ GM since 2003. They have made the playoffs every year except one and been to one Stanley Cup. Bob Murray has been GM since '08. The have missed the playoffs 3 times and never been to a cup with him as GM. You tell me?. |

Most of the competitive teams are in Cap hell. The problem comes when you are not competitive and in Cap hell. COL and NYI right now have the strongest teams and the best cap situations going forward for a few seasons.

But Anaheim doesn't have Karlsson at 11.5 mil till 2027. So, Stan looks like a genius with the Seabrook contract.
I was just asking, since Stevei Y went back to Det, and Joe S is in Col. Maybe that is the new trend, and we all know the NHL still follows trends. |

Every single player should be listened on. Hate the thought of ever moving Kane, but he is your biggest piece and gets you the biggest return. My problem with them rebuilding is do we want to watch Stan Bowman reconstruct the future of this team? I would hope Bowman is fired and whoever takes his position handles those decisions.
By the time the deadline comes, the Hawks could have some VERY attractive trade chips. Say what you want, but I would listen on both Crawford and Lehner, as well as Keith, Strome, Debrincat, Maata, De Haan, Gustafsson, or anybody else that brings you back value. The Hawks need to start acquiring draft picks and a lot of prospects. This team isn't going anywhere this year or in the future. I would rather watch a team rebuilding, who we also know has no short term shot, rather than a team stuck in the middle. - frafra
Agree on Bowman, no way do you want him making any more decisions.
And yes they have the trade chips to start collecting assets, but again you
don't want Stan making those decisions

If the playoffs is your goal, Wilson is the guy. He made many great moves, some bad ones but none that got the team over the top. |

How have COL and StL been doing with the injuries they have had - arguably those players injured are a tad better then whats on our IR list? |

no....they both have teams that are in decline and have made the same same dumb contractual/cap mistakes... |

I’d keep the Drake and trade Shaw. Same type of player that is best suited to bottom 6 but has enough skill to slot up when needed. Drake’s younger with a lot less miles, and doesn’t get reputation penalties...yet anyway. - Ogilthorpe2
I'd trade Dinky, sell high, frees up a lot next year. He's the kind of player you call "good enough to lose." Nice stats but his team goes nowhere. I'm ready to put Strome into the same category as a 2C maybe not a 3C. Both are boys playing against men. Haven't seen anything from Rockford you can win with up front. Time to say, "uh oh!"

The guy who has Karlsson (29), Vlasic (32) and Burns (34) for 5+ more years at a combined cap hit of $26.5M? No (frank)ing way. |

It's hilarious to read the same people hammering Stan for Seabrook's deal actually wanting a guy who has three contracts that will be worse.

Take ANY GM and go thru the history of trades and contracts and you are gonna find some stinkers. Name me a GM with a clean record.
Since Bowman was named GM in 2009, all but 3 teams have turned over GM's, some multiple times. Wilson, Murray and Poile are the only ones still in their positions pre-Stan, and none of those 3 has won a cup. |
