Sven carries a salary that he isn't worth anymore. Normally the team trying to dump that salary has to pay to do that. - manvanfan
Exactly . Sven is having a very good year in Utica. If I was Benning I would throw it back to the agent and put zero effort into it.
A) Terminate contract and seek employment elsewhere
B) Find me a team that wants him for very little and no big salary coming back
C) Stay in Utica |

You don't want that type of relationship with players that A) comes with, otherwise signing free agents of any sort might be a little harder.
I don't have any problem with B), just looking at cap friendly. The amount of teams with little to no cap space is incredible. GM's are not doing a very good job right now.
C) It might actually be better for Sven if he plays and maybe wins a calder cup and with one year left on his contract next season, there will be a much larger market for Sven.
Certainly a lot of possibilities but I think having a team trade for him seems the most unlikely to me without Van taking something back or giving something up. |

I have never heard once in my lifetime don't sign with the Habs they sent Alzner down or Islanders are a bad landing spot because they sent down Ladd. That is fan fabricated. |

Players' egos don't allow them to even imagine that they could ever become a Loudini.
Player agents are financially motivated to have their clients sign for the largest amount of guaranteed money, regardless of team fit or long-term consequences. The NHLPA encourages it as well. |

If I am Benning the only question I have about Sven is do I buy him out in the Summer? |

Exactly what I was going to say
He should stay in Utica and increase his value |

Sven has no NHL value. His contract has outgrown his skill

There’s a lot of bad Benning contracts on the books right now, guys who aren’t worth their salary, Sven is definitely one of them.
Sutter
Beagle
Baertschi
Eriksson
Ferland
I don’t mind a few, every team has then, but we’ve got a lot of em. |

I agree with part of the list. I still like Sutter but the older he gets and being often injured it is time to replace. |

This is the third season in a row he’s going to miss significant time, he’s not worth his contract, never was.
Out of 360 Canuck games, he’s only played 207, definitely not worth it. Pretty much missed two of four seasons. |

I think they are better team with him in the line up. I agree he is injured often and I agree his contract is overpriced . I agree also time for an upgrade but he definitely had a purpose and it is time to move on.

His purpose was giving cap relief by being on LTIR half of each season. |

I think that speaks to the team’s lack of depth more than Sutter’s game itself. |

Benning definitely overvalued the player when he traded for him, and immediately signed him to the overpriced extension. However Sutter was considered fairly durable prior to him getting here so I don't think you can tag Benning with the games played issue.
With Ferland however....
Unless that signing was done intentionally as some devious, Dubas-level genius cap management strategy to have extra LTIR cap space at the trade deadline.

They did not have cap problems last year they had 7 mil to spare. If you say he sat out to tank then that I can agree with |
