And for something completely different:
Everyone always says that Tampa can sign players cheaper because of no state income tax; NYS effective tax rate at $10M in 2018 was $858K. That's without any fancy accounting. In reality it would be less. Kucherov signed for $9.5M which is $10.3M in NY if you're accounting for state tax, that's still less than he should've gotten, especially once you factor in cost of living, you can get a legit mansion here for $1M. And on top of all of that players are taxed based on where they play, meaning they get NYS taxes when the play in NY, and then city taxes when they play in New York. So that $858K shrinks pretty significantly, still not nothing, but not nearly enough to make up the difference. - Wetbandit1
You’re on the right track but are overly simplifying it a bit. I have a couple friends who played pro and you get taxed for the state you earn your wages in. So playing in Tb you’d get no tax for about 46/82% (games played in Tb and Miami) around 6/82% for ny games (buf/nyr/nyi(when in Nassau). Etc... |

It’s going to be such a chefs kiss moment when Skinner starts piling them in again, like he’s done his whole career, and these bumbling idiots go back to “Uh, he’s gonna suck in 4 years!!” - sbroads24
He can score 30 goals and get 50 points and it still won’t make him a $9M dollar player.
He peaked last year, only downhill from here. |

Ric Seiling
Just to bash on Skinner some more. Jack was 2/3 the player he was with Skinner on his line because, well he doesn't disperse the puck for one reason. He hit 21 goals in Feb last year. This year with Olofsson on that line he has a more complete player on that line and who also can shoot the puck accurately. I wonder if the Sabres would have signed Skinner if they truly knew what they had in Olofsson?
By the way Skinner is playing against 2nd and 3rd line talent and he is supposedly a 1st line talent, Vanek scored 40+ goals when he was on the 3rd line the one year. He should be able to out talent 2nd and 3rd lines more often whoever his center is. - GilPerreault11
Ahh ric seiling - a fine player actually. Skinner will be fine especially when he gets a center and Ralph figured out he should use him in ot with eichel (instead of Reinhart). Skinner was deadly last year in ot |

@Garrethohl
Most people still have no clue how much forwards do or don’t score.
Let’s lie and pretend that points is a perfect marker of player performance and value...
31 teams, 3 forwards: 93 first line forwards... last year first line scoring was 52 points.
Only 52.
So Skinner, who’s obviously slumping, being put with AHL caliber centers in Rodrigues and Mittelstadt, is slightly off pace for top line scoring.
But yes, let’s complain incessantly |

I. Don’t care.
I love how you pivot to this whenever the facts can’t back up your opinion that he’s some negative impact player.
We ALL (frank)ing agree he got paid too much.
Seriously dude, as someone who loves the banter I’m on the stfu side of this already.
It’s getting really old that he has to be debated every game he doesn’t score a goal |

Risto had a PP assist. Or was Ullmark pulled and has was the extra? I didn't see the game.
Wouldn't that also damage your "special teams even out" approach? |

It's really funny how many excuses are made for Skinner. Maybe if Mojo would have passed him the puck, if Larsson wasn't his Center. He worked pretty good with Mojo and Sobotka cause Mojo carried the puck and Sobotka worked the boards. Maybe he's trying to do to much right now, he has not been very good with the puck on his stick lately, he hardly ever uses his linemates, maybe it's because of who he is playing with, but you can't always try to go through 2 or 3 players, that obviously means somebody is open and 90% of the time he won't pass and that's to bad because it could lead to a scoring chance for another person or maybe a better one for him. |

So what you’re saying is the Pp got us a point. Like it lost us points in previous games, and got us points early in the year, and will probably give/take away points later in the season.
Our PP/PK are both now around league average
It’s a non-story - sbroads24
Even strength goals dont matter. Some games they cost us a point, some games they dont, its a wash. |

We had the worst PP and PK in the month of November. Does anyone remember what our record was ? |

No but the Sabres currently rank 15th in PP %, and are 4% lower than 15th in PK %.
So the Sabres have basically given up 1-2 extra goals than the absolute average this year in terms of special teams.
Like I’ve said a million times, unless you are elite, or really bad at them, they tend to not make a giant difference |

I’ve always had an obsession with winning and proving people wrong. It’s been a huge part of getting me where I am today in professional and personal life.

When we were 8-1-1 our PP was operating at 25% on the PP. That was the only time Olofsson scored for the most part before he got his feet wet. Our PK was middle of the pack.
If we give up a 5 on 3 goal against the Preds the other night do you think we win that game ? That was a huge turning point in the game. |
