while that is true, they also need to make the playoffs (eventually) in order for the kids to learn what playoffs hockey is. it is valuable experience to get.
worth a 2nd and a B prospect imo. not, I repeat, not a 1st. - fidopro
If he can pull a Petry, sure.
Hall is a bad example. He needed to stay away.
If Hall like the Habs so much, sign here this summer.
And even then, the team who will sign him long term may live to regret it.
Very injury prone player. |

Pretty much this. Don't expect him to buy just to get a rental. The team is not one player away to contend for the cup. Bergevin knows this and act on that knowledge.
Habs need to keep their picks and prospects like crazy. They need more of them, if they can.
Why did we trade Pacioretty? Why Shaw? - deadpoulet
Well, they got a pretty good return for Pacioretty. Shaw was 1 consussion away from becoming a vegetable and it seems that it's now done so it's still a good trade. |

Guy that relies on speed a lot and gets injured often...will probably slow down in a few years. |

My point is those moves were part of the reset/retoll/whatever you want to call them.
If you go after some rentals a few months later... |

Don't think Bergevin is in the rental business... |

Don't think he is in the sell business either.
He is in the just-under-mediocre business. |

he has nothing to sell.
most don't have any value, like Hudon or Alzner. and we now all know teams keep their best players.
maybe Thompson for a 3rd at the tdl, |

Maybe Domi, like I said, but that would put more pressure on Suzuki and KK. He would sell low as well.
Other than that, some changes might take place this summer. They have a few key players that they will have to either sign or trade. |

The fact that the habs are in the same conference might have made the price a bit higher for them as well... If they were asking for Caufield I would've hung up too |

Well what's the "condition" on the 1st and 3rd round picks?
I doubt Vejdemo and Barber would've sealed the deal |

the first is top3 protected.
the 3rd become a 2nd if Hall re-sign or ARZ win a playoffs round, if becomes a 1st if both options happen
it'like if Habs gave Brook as top prospect, and 2 other lesser prospects. +/-
but I still would not do that trade. Habs are not in a position to trade away their 1st. |

Agreed, but your other comment gave me the impression you thought MB was stupid for not getting a deal done |

no no, it's just that often some will say well... of course if they ask for Caufield or kk... I would hang up too.
like if ARZ sold the farm and traded their best prospects... which is not the case.
but you know what? ARZ missed the playoffs very often over the past few years (sounds familiar?). they had enough, they decided to go for it. can't blame them.
will it be a good move? probably not. time will tell. |

It could be 2 first round picks at the end of the day plus some prospects. It's a lot. |
