For what it's worth, I dont regret not taking Tkachuk. He looks like an ass and his upside remains limited imo.
Quinn Hughes though.... that looks like a grand (frank)ing slam.
But hey, GO KK! I BELIEVE IN YOU! - Scabeh

I am, I am. Hopefully KK ends up being the better player or at least a very good oen for us.
But there's no denying how good Hughes is looking in Vancouver right now. |

he has nothing to sell.
most don't have any value, like Hudon or Alzner. and we now all know teams keep their best players.
maybe Thompson for a 3rd at the tdl, - fidopro
He has lots to sell.
Here is the issue, this team is not good. The prospect we have are decent, but there are no Grade A prospects in the pipeline. All this team is designed to do is be mediocre, and maybe make the playoffs now and then, if they continue on this path.
Nothing to trade? Weber, Tatar, Byron (when healthy), Petry (maybe), Domi (maybe), Drouin (maybe, I hope)...
The bottom line is this: Free agents don't want to come to Montreal - the best we got is Alzner (bust) and Chiarot (seems good so far, after rough start). That is not going to get us over the hump. So forget about free agency.
If you want to build a team, you need top 5 picks for 2-3 years to build around with proper development. What did the Habs do when they had those picks?
Galchenyuk was a bust (partially on the player, mostly on the team) Not sending him back to junior after he missed most of the previous season with an injury and then never finding a role for him in the NHL.
Now you have KK (who should have been sent to the AHL last year to play #1 minutes, get use to smaller ice and develop under Bouchard). And guess what? KK is in the NHL, has no real defined role, does not seem to be developing, and has been mostly invisible this year.
Same poop, different player.
This is a cluster(frank) of a team from top to bottom.
MB may think he knows what he wants to do, he just has no clue how to get there... So find someone with the vision, balls and ability to get it done properly. |

Teams usually get high quality players when they draft in the top 10, Habs took a chance with the youngest player in the draft and best ranked center, let's hope he lives up to his potential. We knew it would take 3-4 years before he would be ready to take on a big role with the team...and we also knew bumhole was more NHL ready but was not filling our need for a big skilled center. |

Right, it's the team's fault Galchenyuk was partying until 3AM the night before games.
It's the team's fault he was hanging out with crazy people.
It's the team's fault he was dumb as a bag of bricks despite having a solid skillset.
It's the team's fault the guy didn't take his job seriously.
(frank)ing go cheer for the Leafs already. |

Thats cute, people were saying that at the begining on Matthew too...I have a feeling is going to evolve on a fine offensive player like his brother. he had a fine breakaway goal on Carey earler this year
Off course he an ass, but so is Marchand and I would take both on my team.. |

Again, why bring an immature kid to the NHL, rather than keep him in an environment where he can develop and learn proper skills / tools to be an NHLer.
Send an 18 year old kid to MTL and let him go wild is not the (frank)ing answer.
Galchenyuk is partially to blame, the Habs management of that asset is equally at fault. |

Every situation is different, I don't think there is one fool proof way to develop young players to their full potential.
But knowing what I know of Galchenyuk, I can say with confidence it wouldn't have made much of a difference. |

well aside from the being dumb part, yeah i think the team could have modulated some of that behaviour. some guys need a closer eye kept on them. Gallagher didn't but Galchenyuk clearly did.

We will never know if spending that extra year inthe OHL and starting the next year in the AHL would have been better for him, especially given he basically lost a year to knee injury. I am not convinced he was domed to fail.
What I do know is that the Habs failed with Galchenyuk, so they (wisely) decided to revamp their development process, brought in guys to help develop players and put a plan in place?
And what do they do next?
Take their best hope for a break out player, and throw him in the NHL, rather than let him develop properly in Laval as a #1 center, where he can make mistakes, learn the smaller ice surface and get use to the NHL game.
KK in the NHL, has no defined role, no player development this year at all (in fact, I'd say regression), when he finally gets a winger that works well with him (Drouin) that winger gets removed from his line.
Same poop, different player.
If you can't get free agents to MTL, then you'd better have focus on solid player development. With Galchenyuk and KK - this is just bad asset management and player development - no matter how you look at it.
EDIT: For that alone, MB should be fired. |

i think what's frustrating everyone is that you want to see development and instead we have seen him take a step back. we always hear the NHL isn't a development league so it seems like when these young players come up, the onus to develop is on them and not the organization/coaches. some players can handle it, others can't. maybe KK can't. personally i would have no issue if when he's healthy he's sent right to Laval and we don't see him here until next fall. let him get tons of ice time and develop a role: that of a heavily relied on 2-way center. a bigger, more talented Phil Danault ideally. keeping him in Montreal and yoyo-ing him up and down the lineup does nothing for the team or the player. |
