Your point seems to forget that there's ANOTHER winger on that line. You need more than 1 guy with offensive gifts to make a line work. Your expectations for what Nylander should bring ignore that the third winger on that line should be bringing that.

I'm not a fan of Kapanen with Matthews at any time, because in my (perhaps limited) viewpoint, Kapanen - regardless of wing - is a straight-lane player. He gets in his lane and he just goes. He will cut to the net, and he will shoot. He is not a great passer. He does not have a lethal release. He does not have a great shot. So gaining the zone with possession and using Kapanen to move the puck around or trying to find Kapanen in an optimal shooting position isn't his strength.

Gaining the zone, finding a pocket, passing the puck while still being someone with a good shot and is a secondary threat is something Nylander is good at, but he could use the same thing that Tavares and Marner have on their line - a disturbance on the wing to create room and to retrieve the puck and to forecheck effectively.

That line also needs Hyman. If they can't have Hyman, they should have Mikheyev or as a lesser third option, give them Engvall as an experiment.

Johnsson will be back, with the team seemingly playing better ( or an easier sched ) that line should get back on track.

I don't see how this helps out the Leafs much. Why do you think he would?

Everyone has to grind, battle, dig for pucks. For some reason Leafs and their fans think that only one player per line has to do that. And then we wonder why it’s not working.

Nylanders problem is that he’s a selfish little brat and has been his entire life. Read the scouting reports, listen how he doesn’t take responsibility for anything, watch how he doesn’t seem to care about anyone but himself.

He has skill, but he doesn’t have the right makeup to be a hockey player in the NHL. Go float around the SHL, buy pink toques and Versace slippers in Stockholm.

Vatanen has developed into a good two way D.

He has been great on a tire fire...Safe to say he would help the Leafs. Probably a good 2nd best RHD after Petro next FA class.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I'd go for a defender with more size if I were the Leafs.

Typical Ek horsesh!t. Big competent defender with no cap hit and for a bag of unicorn farts are about where the Leafs are at - right now. Haven't seen the list of teams that are running to the rescue lately.

Vantanen does have a decent contract but he's nothing special. He was supposed to be better than Nylander.

Unless Leafs are sending back Ceci and a couple of prospects - does not make sense. Ceci could probably help the Devils if they are in full tank mode to get Lafreniere. Play
him 30 minutes a game might do the trick.

Is he? I've never met him.

The player that you describe there describes Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Rielly, Barrie, Ceci, Gauthier . . .

Again, and it's been said before - we know what Nylander brings to the table, and it's an extremely valuable skillset, but we need to stop expecting him to be someone he isn't.

I don't expect Marner to physically grind in corners. I don't expect him to block shots. I don't expect Tavares to block shots or throw big hits. I don't expect Matthews to block shots, but I wish he would use his body more. I don't expect Nylander to physically grind in corners either.

Similar to Marner - that's not a battle they win. Smart players use their tools to their advantage not to give someone else an advantage over them.

It's well known every player looking for a good contract is a selfish brat.

Every single one of them.

The ones who end up as bargains magically become men at some point.

Willy isn’t a top line player in the NHL. He can’t compete with the best head on.

what do the ultra-smart younger generations need pension plans for? I thought that they were all going to be independently wealthy ... just as soon as the old guys got out of their way?

be honest, you young guys are just worried that the older generation might actually spend most of their inheritance before they can get their hands on it

dat's the plan baby

Well Petro is a top 8 D in the league.

Vatanen has been a good top pair on a NJD team.

In the past two years he has had success playing as the top guy.
