Money and toys don't buy happiness, it is a really toxic way that we were brought up.
A friend of mine has always owned a successful media business and he sold it a few years ago for 15 million.
The dude is the most unhappy crabby (frank)er, and he never used to be that way. He buys a new toy and sells it every month. Divorced, kids don't want anything to do with him anymore.
When the (frank) did people get so materialistic.
It is the biggest bummer about Christmas. - Santo_44
3 years. 3 years is the average someone is happy from their bigger home, more luxurious car purchase.
You're correct that buying things doesn't make you happy but being wealthy certainly allows you to look for it in better places. |

We have holl and muzzin who have good size.
Rielly isn't small.
Maybe a adding a depth guy with size would be nice since maricin, harper and gravel all suck.
But a backup goalie and a couple useful bigger forwards would be the priority imo. - Tumbleweed
I honestly had faith in Hutch coming into this season. That the team could pull out some wins for the guy. I have lost that faith and think Dubas made a mistake in leaving no wiggle room.
Well, no, I have to take that back. He could have not signed Johnsson or Kap. However, he's left in moving one of those two guys to make space for a back up goalie and maybe a depth D-man. I don't see any other way around it if he wants to maintain the core 4 guys.
Barrie is making 2.75 on our cap. I can't see him being moved for another dman that fits with his potential. |

This is coupled with society basically living on credit.
I do financial planning and I deal with this on a regular basis. People have ridiculous expectations and the media really bleeds into the greed.
Also, people have this idea of keeping up with the Jonses and it's deterimental to their happiness.
I can give a piece of advice to everyone here. The richest people I work with are ones who live in a modest home with modest cars. The mortgage they accept is usually 70% of their top end. - Aaron_85
some good points.
media/advertising have been bombarding us for decades and have gotten better and more manipulative, its everywhere...buying this and buying that is what will make you happy blah blah
we are all effected by it in some way.

I still wonder what the cost of Georgiev would be and if the Rangers were even willing to part with him for something reasonable. |

Barrie is precisely the guy they should move... obviously he's not going to be a Leaf after this season. If you can move him to a team looking for an offensive defenseman.. .you do that...
and replace him with a guy who's on an expiring deal at or near the TDL who plays a more conservative game. that's why the injury thing might actually be a bit of a luxury for Dubas - take a look see at Lillybust... if he can give you more or less what you are getting from Barrie...
then have at it.

You'd be surprised how much of my job is tempering human psychology compared to working with numbers.
The other thing I tell people I work with is do not compare yourself to anyone else. Anyone talking to you casually is telling you the best part of them, not their worst. Your life is completely different than someone else's. From being married and having 2 kids to being divorced with 4 kids. Jobs differ, everything differs. It's impossible to compare. What works for the married with 2 kids will not work for the divorced and 4 kids... |

I quit my highly paid job a few years back. Traded it for personal freedom. I work when I want and do more or less what I want. Earn about a third of what I used to, but the freedom is great.

I think it would take some serious skill to essentially make two deals here. Barrie leaving and then using those assets + whatever else you have to bring someone else in. Plus keep everything under the cap. |

I wonder too. I just don't know why someone would trade a goalie with an unknown prospect coming up behind an aging Lundquist. I could see the prospect being traded before Georgiev. |

If they can get a player that is skilled and also big? Great.
If his price tag is a premium because of his size, I laugh and walk away. - Santo_44
A guy like clifford would be an upgrade over useless players like petan/timapoop/assber/goat/spezza. |

the broker who handled our mortgage refinance in 2013 (lowered rates by 2%) was stunned when told him we had no debt... other than our mortgage....
he kept asking... "line of credit", "car payments", 'cash advancements" and "credit card balances"...
after getting zero as the answer about five times... he shared that about 60-70 of the people in the town have approximately a years pre-tax income worth of debt - outside their mortgages that they are carrying.
cause you know... when you get that 800K house with a 650K mortgage... you have to have the 80K car to go along with it...
you just have to... because "I own that house - I simply have to have the car"...
its really true - you can't fix stupid.

I traded my +1hour one-way train commute for a 20 minute (25 with traffic) one way commute.
What a difference in being able to spend time with my kids. |

You need a new broker then lol. I see lots of debt free people. Or close to debt free people.
My friend lives in Bowmanville and I went trick or treating with him and his son. I made remarks on how many $70,000+ trucks were on his street. All of them spotless. I don't get it. |

I quit a job a couple of years back - was done with the insane travel.
I thought I'd have trouble replacing the salary... but was fortunate... and now no operational requirement, strategy, direction and education only - closer to 40-45 hours a week, as opposed to 55-60, no travel AND make about 33% more.
grey hair is great - the image of maturity
between the little to no travel, reduced real hours and almost no commute....

Wouldn't be the first time I disagree with a leafs fan on the definition of success. - Scabeh
This is an excellent point. I can't think anything short of a cup win being a success. Since no Canadian team has won the cup in over 25 years, we are forced to gripe about vaious inadequacies of our respective franchises. The Leafs sh!tting the bed against the Flyers, ultimately leading to the firing of the coach or Montreal unable to beat the worst Red Wing team in 34 years. |

I can't see the Rangers moving him at all. He's their best tender. By a country mile. A little long in the tooth for old Henry, I'm afraid. |
