It didnt work because LA is a bad team. They havent been good for a while. They have only made the playoffs twice in the last 5 years and the two times they did, they were bounced out of the 1st round with only 1 win across 9 games.
Kovalchuk was not going to magically turn that around. |

Plus, if you talk to some Kings fans, they'll tell you there was never a fit for Kovy and it was a forced attempt. Usage and fit absolutely play a factor. But as you mentioned, the Kings are just a bad and old team. |

He won't do the same here either. Flyers are better off playing younger players. |

So I read that PK Subban may be back on the trading block and he's been pretty bad with NJD. Meanwhile Weber is killing it for the Habs. It's funny, when the trade was made everyone called the Habs so dumb (rightfully so), but looking at it today it sure seems Habs won the deal, contract aside. |

He would 100% do better here. Flyers have a lot of skill in the line up. A shooter like him would help the Flyers. No offense to any of our younger guys but no one there can replace Lindblom. At league minimum I would would sign him. Worst case waive Stewart and use Kovy as the 13th. Still an upgrade somewhere. |

I've alsways thought it was an even deal. Been a huge Weber fan since before we offer sheeted him. PK was also voted most over rated Dman by his peers. He's def better than he's shown in Jersey. I dont think Jerseys a good fit and unfortunately for them, I really dont see him moving without a bad contract going back. |

Correct. The best thing to do is nothing. No trade or signing like Kovy is going to dramatically change this team and you may be giving up future talent.
Even at full strength, this team was improved by the infusion of youth, but it was still not much more than a bubble team. Make the playoffs? Maybe a coin toss.
What happens now is further exposing a bunch of very highly paid stiffs ( as if we needed more proof). Far be it from us to expect any production from them.
Please. no short term attempts to fix. Let the cards fall where they may.
And we are a lottery team, PLEASE draft s forward with some speed and finesse for a change!!!

You just think he would and maybe he would. We've seen much better players than Kovalchuk is currently struggle with the Flyers this season in a much better lineup. Kovalchuk can't come close to replacing Lindblom either. There is no future with him. Play the kids. Kovalchuk is unhappy that he wasn't playing in LA. Why would he sign here if the Flyers are honest with him that when all are healthy he'll be the 13th forward? |

Seems people hyperfocused on the age and contracts for both players, which I get. I'm also a big Weber fan and he really would have been a great Flyer on and off the ice. Ideal replacement for Pronger after her went down. NJD crack me up .Everyone swore them and the NYR would be soooo good. I thought NYR could be good, but never thought the NJD would be that much better despite flashy acquisitions. Great to see them suck this bad. Having said that, watch them get the #1 pick again |

I thought NJD could be good enough to be a potential bubble team. Rangers not so much. Though I felt Metro was so strong that any team aside from WSH could finish anywhere. One mistake people make is putting too much value on the "Name". Hockey is a team game. One player doesnt make or break your roster. Skill and speed are great but if the effort is not there guys that give it there all on every shift are going to outwork you and win games. Nylander is a guy that comes to mind. Guy has elite skill but whether or not he shows up or not is anyones guess. He gets outs worked a lot of the time and it hurts the Leafs. When the effort is there, he helps the team and he produces. |

I was a huge Weber fan. When they signed him to the OS, I was super excited, and bummed when Nashville matched. In hindsight, so glad that they matched. But right now, I'd much rather have him than Subban. |

But there's a fit here? - Pelle31Forever
Lets look at the facts:
Lindblom, NoPa and Morin - all done for the year
Twarynski hasnt shown any promise - replaced with Andreoff
Vorobyev has looked good recently but he hasnt really been that consistent.
Frost and Farabee show flashes
NAK is only getting his first look now, time will tell if he shows promise or is just another Twarynski
Kase - hasn't really shown me anything
I Raffl, Laughton and Pitlick will be back at some point so 2 of the above are heading back to AHL and Stewart back to the pressbox
Andreoff, and probably NAK. Kase I would send down as well.
This where a league minimum Kovalchuk could come in.
I doubt it happens but I believe there is a fit and I dont think he blocks anyone on a 1 year deal
Giroux - Hayes - Konecny
Kovalchuk - Couturier - Voracek
Laughton - Frost - Farabee
Raffl - Vorobyev - Pitlick |

Not necessarily here, certainly in the NHL. But with how bad our PP has looked and how we tend to pass instead of shoot, Kovy's shot could be a nice weapon. All hypothetical. Now if we lose another forward for a lengthy injury, I may give him a call |

I was happy as well. can't remember exactly, didn't we trade for pronger after they matched? who knows what the team would look like now. I prefer my d men to be tough to play against....why i'm not a huge ghost fan and the o'lays that happen. |

i've had no problem with Carsen's game or Kase to this point. NAk will be interesting to watch. But the former two skate and check well. That's all i expect from them on a depleted roster. |

I would take Kovalchuk because of what we lost.I think whatever we pull out of the minors is playing way above their heads. |

Pretty much all the analytics devotees, yes. A large percentage within NHL hockey said even at the time that they'd still rather have Weber if the chips were down in a game or a series.
