Pretty much all the analytics devotees, yes. A large percentage within NHL hockey said even at the time that they'd still rather have Weber if the chips were down in a game or a series. - bmeltzer
Agreed, one of the better leaders in the league and certainly one of the meaner guys on the ice
i've had no problem with Carsen's game or Kase to this point. NAk will be interesting to watch. But the former two skate and check well. That's all i expect from them on a depleted roster. - Peter Richards
Thats the problem. Skating and checking well isnt enough to be in the top 6. None of the players in my bottom 6 or minors can step into that role IMO. Frost would be the closest one but i dont feel he is ready yet. Laughton on 3rd line is his ceiling
I've alsways thought it was an even deal. Been a huge Weber fan since before we offer sheeted him. PK was also voted most over rated Dman by his peers. He's def better than he's shown in Jersey. I dont think Jerseys a good fit and unfortunately for them, I really dont see him moving without a bad contract going back. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
I always thought Montréal got the better player but the contract was the issue. I'm shocked at how far pk has fallen off however. I blame Lindsey. Haha
So I read that PK Subban may be back on the trading block and he's been pretty bad with NJD. Meanwhile Weber is killing it for the Habs. It's funny, when the trade was made everyone called the Habs so dumb (rightfully so), but looking at it today it sure seems Habs won the deal, contract aside. - arichardson22
I won't judge PKS on his time in NJ. They are awful.
I'd really love to know how they can look at the Farabee and Ellis hits and be satisfied with the penalties and supplemental discipline doled out. - Scoob
There was no injury on the Ellis hit.
Just like in the law, the extent of the injuries caused matter when determining punishment.

He suffered a back injury and hasn't been the same since. When his career is over he'll probably get surgery on it.

I thought NJD could be good enough to be a potential bubble team. Rangers not so much. Though I felt Metro was so strong that any team aside from WSH could finish anywhere. One mistake people make is putting too much value on the "Name". Hockey is a team game. One player doesnt make or break your roster. Skill and speed are great but if the effort is not there guys that give it there all on every shift are going to outwork you and win games. Nylander is a guy that comes to mind. Guy has elite skill but whether or not he shows up or not is anyones guess. He gets outs worked a lot of the time and it hurts the Leafs. When the effort is there, he helps the team and he produces. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
I don't see the devils much but seems like Hischier's stats from year one to year to and now to year 3 has pretty much dropped off. He is still very young tho. Same with Hughes... so young. Getting the #1 pick doesn't always mean huge impact. Not everyone is Ovechkin or Crosby. those players have a lot of room for growth still.
they got a nice return for Hall which to me was the smart thing to do altho I'm surprised they didn't wait a little longer.
Which player would you have signed to be a 13th forward? Keep in mind the guy would need to be comfortable knowing he could be be sitting in the pressbox for long stretches of the season and even in the case of one or two injuries was probably going to be bypassed in favor of a callup when at all possible.
Do we know a lot of players like that? Because some of the names Ive seen floated in here I doubt would have accepted that role.
Edit: I just realized this reads like I am challenging you and I am really trying to reinforce your point. - MBFlyerfan
Nick Shore, for one. There are plenty of vets in this league who would be happy to be on an NHL team as the "13th forward". Our "13th forward" is playing his 13th game of the season tonight.

I remembered at the time of the trade he recently had back issues, but figured they healed. He may not be the same but damn the guy has 27 points in 33 Games! Maybe some of our guys should sustain a back injury

This league is headed down a slippery slope, we’re gonna start seeking some bad acting skills on display. That’s probably a 5 minute major if Buchnevich stays down for a few minutes
