For arguments sake how many players were sent to the minors and figured it out to become a top 6 center? - hubie
Mittelstadt will end up on the wing, doesn’t have the top end speed to play the middle just like Sam.
That’s why I wouldn’t mind moving him at this point, not because I don’t think he’ll end up being a top 6 winger. If we can move a winger for a Center I do it 10/10 |

Yes and they got 4 of their top 6 forwards and a top 4 d-man in those 5 years. Unfortunately Trouba wanted out or else that’s an impressive haul. - Pegullaville
While being in playoff contention is a point that is being skipped over.
Id have given my left nut to be 7 points from the playoffs the last few years instead it was over by new year. |

everybody is against the cap, he sucks and all we are getting is a 6th or 7th.. the best thing is it would free some space to hopefully allow for another more siginficant trade, but i bet we have to eat celery to make it happen even for a 6th - SabresFaninIndiana

Or you offer Sam and a 2021 first and try to aim higher. - Pegullaville
Sam has value and therefore I can understand using him to acquire what we think we need...
but are we really ready to be moving 1sts?
We could still be picking top10 this year. Given cap space, I'd argue with you that it would be wiser to include a prospect in a package and that our first should be off limits until we are legitimate contenders. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t move the 2020 first rounder cause it’s a deep draft. 2021 id move though |

That's fair. I was going to mention that this draft is supposed to be particularly good. Beat me to it. |

Larkin is not on that level, however it’s supply and demand man. How many times do Centers get moved ? Especially those 25 and younger ?
I can name a dozen wingers that have changed teams and had a net positive impact on their new clubs that’s why I sit here and female dog and complain that we paid $9M for one.
The wingers might not be as good as Skinner, however they don’t have to be if you are built down the middle and on the backend. - Pegullaville
He's had since June 2018 to do so. Maybe the job is too hard for him |

Sure and every GM also knows that it would be a lotto protected first as well. Who would give someone a lotto ticket in this years draft ? |

The sad part is, if the Red Wings get Byfield. They are already above us. Having Larkin and Byfield as a 1-2 combo would be deadly. - Pegullaville
Oh I agree, plus they have Veleno, who is regarded as a A++ prospect |

Plenty of teams use the draft to get there. Avs and Yotes seem to be doing well after sticking with their youth. |

Not necessarily, if he misses next year though he’s gone. As long as they don’t completely bottom out he’ll be here next year.
The last GM made deals quick fix deals and got us into this mess in the first place.
Chevy was given 6 years in Winnipeg to get them together and they drafted Laine, Connor, Morissey, Trouba, Ehlers, Scheifele, and I don’t see many of their fans complaining that it took 6 years to build a contending core. - Pegullaville
Thus is a good post and supports the build through draft model well.
To be truthful though, I suspect Jets fans were wondering in year 2 or 3 or so as well |

Bogo for Galchenyuk makes the most sense. Similar contracts. Both players that need to be traded and both could be upgrades to what the other team currently has at their respective positions. If it doesn't work out for either team, contract is done at seasons end. |

That's the thing we have to consider, do we continue on the path and hopefully draft well and let the prospects grow. Or do we make a big move and hope it helps now and into the future, if there is even one to be had, knowing that move is gonna cost some of that future. |

The point was, when looking at the top of the standings, half those teams operate as you say. Boston ships out picks every year for help. Others do not.
We shipped out picks for Kane, RoR and Lehner...didn't seem to get us there. It's obviously all about the right trade, but I can't say there's a correlation between pick trades and winning, can you? |

Boston is in the position to do so.... we are not
They can draft quality player we can not
but its not to see jumping the quality teams to try to make your point.
If your goign to use ROR
how did it work out for the Blue to send 2 picks 2 players and a prospect To land a top 6 center?
Oh and also the bruins make trades around the core ... they dont need to make trades so they have a core
oh and since 2015 they dealt a 1st once for Rick Nash and before that was 2011 |

Chris Tiernney in the Karlsson deal
Strome/Domi fill in the blank potential guys who have not lived up to the hype |
