About 20 NHL teams have former head coaches as assistants atm.
I think it's a savvy move by GM's to subtly put some heat on the HC.
The assistant coach can bide their time and still apply for other HC vacancies or take over the mantle when it becomes available.

Most of those are guys who have less impressive resumes at the NHL level than DeBoer.

Sucks that Benning missed out on Gallant and Cassidy.

I don't think it's as subtle as you suggest.

Hey, we're getting out coached, let's bring in some help.

Also, if things don't improve, he'll get your job.

You could present it both ways, i'm good with either.

The players who dislike Green will immediately check out as soon as they smell blood.

Well, there's a few that have led teams to the cup (Blysma, Crawford, Sutter), which is more that DeBoer accomplished.

Sutter is an advisor. Crawford hasn’t had any success post-lockout. Bylsma I’ll give you though.

Then get a new coach. Bring Deboer as head coach.

I'll take DeBoer as an adviser then.

If it were wine, it would be a fine vintage of Gretzky... eloquent write up though.

I like the double-whammy passive aggression every day when Marwood posts those and you quietly trash every strain he talks about

It's being kept incredibly quiet. Apparently there are plenty within the organization who don't even know. All they said was that he "left them no choice"

Last I read someone said it wasn’t player abuse or anything sexual with a female employee but it was something that wouldn’t be acceptable in “today’s society”

My money is on him dropping a homophobic F bomb or something along those lines

Maybe domestic abuse?

You're probably right it was just some opinion or statement the team absolutely couldn't stand behind.

He forced the team to listen to him reading Moby Richard, he only got to chapter 16 before being fired.

So, take it with a grain of salt, as I was kinda drunk when the story was told, but...

Apparently a hooker came down from a hotel room, made a scene in the lobby about the John in room “1001” (Montgomery’s room) and then took off. There was more, but I can’t remember.

Bylsma was hated, there’s a reason he doesn’t have work. Crow would be a not bad choice but been there. Sutter would be like hiring Don Cherry imo at this point.

Sutter’s teams always play really good defensively though, but man they’re tough to watch
