Last night's game was worst I've seen and I've seen many stinkers in Philly over the last 18 years. Eichel didn't look or act sick in warmups. Not at all. I was as close as a fan could possibly be to him during warmups. He was talking to trainer and what i assume doctor for most of it. Looked like it was something with neck or head to me. I was thinking pinched nerve, migraine or concussion. He went back on ice, made a few passes back and forth to Samsonite, took a few shots and into the dressing room with rest of team. I thought he was playing.
Other than that, Botterill is the worst GM in history of sports. Beedy eyed play it safe putz. His supporters cut from the same cloth. Thank you GMTM your services are missed and appreciated. - Hatboro_Swords

Pilut is beyond ready for the NHL, but the glut of defensemen topic has been beaten to death already.
The Amerks have beenn tremendous goaltending for a while now, and Jonas has had quite the renaissance. - kingcong39
Jonas was a wall last night. Twice in the 3rd the Amerks had to kill off a 5 on 3 and he was terrific, made a couple of big saves. His development has been remarkable this year. |

That would be great if a stable of young goaltenders emerged as a strength for the organization. Would resolve another need on the big club for years to come. |

Hey for the WJ20, do you know if all these guys made their country's team?
Matej Pekar - Team Czech Republic
Erik Portillo - Team Sweden
Dylan Cozens - Team Canada
Mattias Samuelsson - Team USA
Ryan Johnson - Team USA
Miska Kukkonen - Team Finland
I thought I saw that Pekar was returned, but maybe I'm wrong...I hope so 'cause I really want to watch him play. |

Pekar played for Czech in a pre-tournament game, got his team's only goal in a loss so I assume he will be on the roster. Johnson didn't make the final cuts. Not sure about Kukkonen but the rest will be playing. In fact, Samuelsson will be on the #1 D pair with Regula and will probably get a letter, most likely an A.

“ He’s playing so fast,” said assistant coach André Tourigny. “He might've been our best player in the last two practices. He’s really fast and what I like is he’s as fast with the puck as without the puck. He wants to make the difference every time he touches the ice.”
“He’s probably one of the fastest players I've ever played with and practised against,” said Erie Otters defenceman Jamie Drysdale. "It's really incredible what he can do out there and doing that at his top speed. He can make plays, be a threat to burn you wide or deke through you or shoot through you, so when you have all those threats it’s really dangerous.”
Cozens has lined up as a centre (his natural position) and on right wing during Canada’s camp. On Monday, he skated in the middle with draft-eligible dynamo Quinton Byfield of the Sudbury Wolves on the left and Halifax’s Raphael Lavoie on the right. When Joe Veleno joins Team Canada from the AHL, it seems likely he'll replace Lavoie on that line.
Cozens has earned the top-six role, impressing teammates with both his talent and his commitment.
“What’s most important is he’s one of the hardest workers on the ice all the time,” observed Dellandrea, “so put all that together it’s hard to stop and hard to defend against.”

Thanks.
Too bad about Johnson though. He was paired with Samuelsson in an earlier tourney as their 1st pairing. Oh well. |

He should be for sure.
I hope they bring him along at a slower pace by starting him on RW initially. Let him adjust to the game and earn more responsibilities as he goes.
Along with that, I'd like to see the Sabres bring in an established C for the 2C position to take that weight off him for Cozens initial 2 years or so. |

I think Ralph is perfect for this team.
He has made some head-scratcher decisions (cough Skinner reduced TOI) but by and large he has command of the team and has most of the players playing better than they have in years. A couple of outliers, but he's been pretty impactful.
I went on record during their Nov crash 'n' burn segment as saying he was the right choice as a leader of men, and I think that is an understatement.
Plus, I like the way he is signaling to Botts that he needs forward upgrades by playing 11F and 7D.
Hey Botts, see what I'm dealing with here...could use a little help buddy |

Agree, good post. Ralph is in total control and if players don't like what he's doing (Bogo), they won't play. He's like a field general. He calls the shots. I like that. Scotty Bowman was the same way. You always knew who was boss.

Sabres got some good pieces coming up through the system, it will be a couple years before some of them are ready, it's unfortunate that the system was so drained that there wasn't more able to take spots the last 3 or so years |

Yeah Ralph said he’s not here to be a popular guy
Miller and bogo have been bad this year and a huge liability in the defensive zone. Ralph is doing the right thing |

I was ok with him going back to Junior. He was coming off a thumb injury at dev camp and maybe it was best to let him get healthy, dominate the WHL and WJC and continue his development. Don't rush him this year but he'll be a Sabre next year. I'd like to try him at Center in camp and during the early part of next season. He can always go to wing.

The last I looked not many great 2C in free agency next year aside from Pageau. I would start Cozens at center but that's just my opinion on it.

And looking at next years draft it is loaded with Centers. Rossi, Lundell, Zary, Lapierre, Bourque are guys that should be looked at. |

‘Twas the night before game day, when all through Gillette
Not a camera was filming, at least they weren’t yet
The game balls were placed in the locker with care
Just how I like them, without too much air
The receivers were nestled all snug in their cots
While visions of Tre White haunted their thoughts
And Bob in his towel, and I in my Uggs
Had just settled in for a nice rub n tug
When down on the field there arose such a clatter
I opened my sensory deprivation therapy chamber to see what was the matter
When what to my cold, dead eyes should appear
But 53 monsters that filled me with fear
When I saw them I gasped and my body got chills
I knew in a moment it must be the Bills
Like stampeding hooves, the coach’s claps they came
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now, Beasley! Now, Brown! Now, Devin and Dawson!
On, Poyer! On, Hyde! On, Phillips and Lawson!
To the top of the East! We won’t stop til it’s done!
Let’s murder that weirdo who frenches his son”
All over the field the defensive backs flew
And they picked off each terrible pass that I threw
As I faked a handoff and was turning around
Up through the gut Oliver came with a bound
He was dressed in all white, from his helmet to cleats
And he yelled when he saw me, “You’re dead (frank)ing meat!”
He flung me with ease, right onto my back
It was not even halftime and he had his 3rd sack
Then back to the huddle he went with a jog
A bruise on my thigh, from his monster hog
And I heard him exclaim like a voice from on high:
“The process befalls you! Get ready to die!” |
