Exact opposite. He was all flash and dangles, however against high school competition. I’ll admit I drank the koolaid after his WJC appearance and how he’s dominated his age group at multiple international tournaments just like that one.

However, as we have all seen the past year and a half, the NHL is a whole other level and although he’s got elite raw skills he has below average skating and conditioning levels.

Mittelstadt can become an NHL winger but it’s up to him to commit to it. He needs to improve his off ice and on ice training and work on his skating and conditioning levels.

Getting his confidence back will also help.

People always look at the fact he couldn’t do a pull up, the most concerning part of the combine for me was that he scored the worst on the biking test they have that measured conditioning.
