Beware you have to wear a jacket to get in here. Won’t return. It’s Nashville people don’t wear suit jackets to bars. |

Maybe I should have said, we could have had Kakko, draft picks and 9M cap space. Rebuild was rushed. - PrinceChill
Meh ok, he hasn't overly impressed either. This might be one of those drafts that turns out to be just a group of ok players, not that there's anything wrong with that, just is. Potential is there, we'll see. As far as the other picks, give me Skinner over a 2,3, and 6 all day, every day, twice on sundays, and wrapped in a Christmas box tomorrow. We all agree he's overpaid by 1-1.5M, but you don't let stars walk when you are where we are. |

If JB didn’t try to rush the rebuild by acquiring Skinner, the Sabres would have the 9M in cap space, the draft picks he spent, and Turcotte or better in that draft. - PrinceChill
I mean you’re not wrong. |

To a large degree, I’m playing devils advocate here. I like Jeff Skinner. Much of my last few posts was for Pegville.
He loves JB’s patient approach, but one could argue Skinner’s acquisition was rushing the rebuild. He praises the paltry assets spent to get JS, but despised the contract that kept him here.
So I’m wondering, if one were inclined to be committed to the long-range rebuild of this team, whether getting and keeping Jeff was a large mistake. Skinner could be north of 30 by the time this team is ready to compete.

acciari scored 7 goals in his past 4 games, back to back hat tricks. Huberdeau had an assist on 5 of them.
That is the impact a top end player has on a line.
Victor Olofsson is probably a 15-20 goal 45 point player and is going to get 60+ points on Eichel’s wing. - Pegullaville
Just in time for a new contract- and after we pay him for putting up 60 points let's put him on another line |

The drop off between Eichel and Johansson is insane. Botts is crazy not to have fixed the 2C position.
Then the drop off between Eichel and e rod
Uglyyyyyytt - Sabretooth9
This.
Said perfectly.
I want Botts to stay, but holy crap if this is representative of his judgement going forward, I can't wait to see how he misuses $33m in Cap this offseason.
It is as close to a fireable offense as there is, rolling in with a Plan C as your lead option and having Plan F as your backup. |

As critical as I can be towards Botts, much of that is just challenging those who excuse his bad moves. I REALLY want him to work out. Starting over with a new GM right now would hurt and be frustrating. The players here right now need to be better, and so does JB.
Counting on that sweet 20-21 cap space to solve all problems might be a mistake. A lot of that will dry up signing RFAs. And counting on UFAs to round out the roster will be a disappointment. |

What the Sabres need now more than anything is someone who can identify and acquire forward talent. Botterill has proven time and time again that evaluating forward talent is not only his greatest weakness - but well below NHL average for a GM.
Berglund, Sobotka, Thompson, Sheary, Vesey, Johansson, Mittelstadt
The Sabres need someone who can clean up Botterill's defensive log jam and identify forwards to help Eichel.
Botterill is unwilling or unable to do the job in front of him. It's time for a change. I hope the Pegulas use the holiday break to think about the disparity between their franchises and come to the needed realization that Botterill has to go. - jcragcrumple
You'll recall that about 14 months ago, this very board was calling for the heads of McBean. Both were highly ridiculed as being piss poor at their jobs.
In fact, if you replaced the name Botterill with Beane in the posts since Ocf 1st and compared them to that timeline, well you could not discern the difference.

at what point is the coach part of this mess?
I mean he makes little changes to the lineup
little if any changes mid game
and buries a 40 goal scorer down the lineup
I don't see anything different between kruger after 15 games then I did from housley after the 10 game win streak last season
at least housley had the balls to pull a goalie when the team needed a spark - homiedclown

paying a 40 goal scorer 9 mil per is far from the worst contract
paying kruger to play skinner with 4th liners is a much worse contract - homiedclown
Saying Skinner is a 40 goal scorer when he has averaged up until and including his 40 goal season is 27.1 goals a year is like saying Drew Stafford was true 30 goal scorer that he netted in his contract year too.
He is scoring at a few goals below his career average this season not the high point of his career where his shooting percentage was impossible to maintain and we saw that when he hit a wall in the last 25 games of the year.
Some Sabres fans are like abused spouses who stand by their abusing spouses no matter what, for the kids, because they see the spouse as who they used to be, as who they think they need instead of being alone. Sabres fans stand by certain players no matter what too. Throw every excuse possible to give cover to them when reality is they are who they are. |

Leafs got their empty netter w 2:30 left in the game.
Sens got theirs w almost two minutes.
Skinner is still generating chances even w drones as line mates. He’s just not potting the puck. It will come. |

Yes, the Cap space was discussed last night again. The $33m or whatever, in large part is a mirage.
Hence why I keep harping on the fact JB needs to address a couple roster holes in-season this year, not as stop gaps, rather long-term pieces. The excuse-makers will trot out the arguments of why it is too difficult, nearly impossible. Those are just that, excuses for not getting enough done. |
