The Montour trade was fine, your original view point of Haula over Miller makes sense. However, how did Botts know that Bowman was gonna bend over and take it in the behind and give up Joker for Nylander ?
Now he’s struggling to find value for his d-man but why make the trade when demand is low.
When you sell your house should you do it in the middle of a recession and demand is low ? Or when housing prices are sky rocketing
We shouldn’t just give away a d-man because we have an over abundance and sell for pennies on the dollar.
Be patient and wait for the right time. - Pegullaville
That's the jackpot he put himself into by trading for half the surplus supply of RHD. It all comes back to his own doing. His roster construction was dumb and bad especially considering what he's drafted in terms of defensemen.
He backed himself into a corner and Krueger has to roll with it |

Yeah, but when that didn't come to fruition at camp, maybe he showed just enough for them to think he might progress to that by know. |

I can cut off part of what I said and leave out the heart of what I said too but here is the gist:
"that analogy has been used in literature again and again and not a problem but only when Sabres fans are involved. Sabres fans are soft, the new generation."
Who is it personally offending? The soft Sabres fans? The ones who have incessantly posted their devotion because of the linemates? We should all sing The Season of the Linemates to the melody of Age of Aquarius.

you called me a snowflake
I don't bring up trump every day, the archives prove it
but please continue to spin it into something else

then you blamed me in 6th grade for getting a broken shoulder from a parent because of a c in shop class
then you called me a snow flake
now it's trumps fault
what you said is wrong, period

I can believe that, even if Botts was hoping for it you could see after the first 15-20 games it wasn't happening. |

I have agreed with Botts’ patience method and not overspending to acquire assets. However you can’t miss on a top 10 pick.
I have no idea what happened to Mittelstadt, this was a guy who was universally ranked as a top 5 prospect by literally anyone who evaluates prospects. His fall from grace is 50% his own doing and 50% due to Botts’ mismanagement of him. Hopefully he can figure it out but if he doesn’t, that will be Botts’ demise. - Pegullaville
It happens. I can name 10 top tens who were elite scouting talents who were NHL busts in every 5 years for the past 25 years. It sucks when it happens, but it definitely happens. Much worse when a top 3 is a complete bust. That happens too |

Being a fan is one thing, but only being a pathetic card-carrying for the underachieving is another. You should be held up for that, in my opinion. - GilPerreault11
Not really. I’m just taking it one step further. The Sabres have won absolutely nothing to deserve any fans, according to your logic. I mean they finished dead last how many times in the last eight years? That surely beats the scoring drought skinner is currently on no? So, again, by your own logic, stop being a fan at all. Save us all the embarrassment. |

How about we just stop making excuses for these millionaires, supposed to be the cream of the crop to make it in the NHL. Few exceptions here and there. Maybe they should just get there heads out of there asses, and start playing what there paid for. - Buff36

This millennial has not made a single excuse for Sam and Jeff.
We aren’t winning anything with those two guys as our 2nd and 3rd best forwards.
The tank was supposed to be done to draft high end players early and build a cup core.
Yet everyone is satisfied with us essentially replacing the players we traded away Sam (Pominville) and Skinner (Vanek).
Eichel > Danny but Jesus Briere was one of the most underrated players of the 2000-2010 decade of hockey. |

The simplest answer is this:
JB should have traded for Haula instead of Miller. There are other answers, but it's not worth getting into the weeds debating what players were or weren't available.
We all recognized in July that he over invested in defense and didnt address the forwards properly
If a bunch of idiots on the internet saw it, Botterill should have seen it. Either he didn't or it was too late after he traded for Montour, Miller and Joker. In any case, he put himself in this position, not Murray. JB was gifted a 1st and "4th" line. He's had a year and a half since he traded ROR. All of it is unacceptable imo.
Merry Christmas and god bless us, everyone
It's a situation where JB wasted another year - jcragcrumple
In hindsight, Haula probably made sense
But at the time...
Haula was a career bottom6 guy who had ONE good year with Vegas & was coming off a major injury
So my guess is that Botts was aiming higher since we were already overloaded with bottom6 guys
In late June/July,
who would you have chosen...
-trade for Haula coming off injury
-MoJo for free coming off a good playoffs + you think Mitts will be improved
Maybe it’s arguable?
But i think MoJo was a very understandable choice
And probably the one most of us would’ve made at the time as well
And isn’t Haula hurt again anyways? |

I still say the issue isn't skinner or skunk
but the lack of drurys, roys to round out the top 9 and a d man or 2 that will clear out the front of the freaking net |

Which is fair.
We will eventually field a good middle 6.
Will it be good enough to win a cup is a different story.
Sooner or later people will become restless after several playoff exits too.
When do Beane and McDermott start getting judged for playoff success instead of just making it there ? Next year ?
Expectations will rise, we’ll see what happens. |

Well maybe that does happen
But even looking back on it...
no one has made any kind of compelling statement about what Botts should’ve done differently
Other than make a move for player x who didn’t actually get moved,
so we’ve got no clue if that guy was even available to Botts
Haula <<< MoJo
Kadri just wasn’t happening |

As an advisor on financial aspects to the famous and wealthy, surely you must know the answer is fully dependent on your need to replace the house....need bigger, sell when in a recession as the price of the higher, more expensive home will vecdeflated more. If looking to downsize, sell when prices on your own, more expensive home is skyrocketing.
So the answer is, it could be either or.
