I think his plan was that some team would really need a top 4 D man and give up a good forward in exchange.
- sbroads24
He still has time. A serious playoff/contender could lose a defenceman or 2 before the deadline. But he gambled that it would definitely happen and it hasn't yet.

Winnipeg chose the waiver wire as opposed to paying up.
I don’t think he’s interested in short term fixes.
Whether that plan is flawed or not he’s not going to give up 5 pieces for a guy like Evander Kane who has 3 years til UFA while also taking on a bad contract.
Idk. If he sits on his hands and we fall short theirs something to talk about - sbroads24
Then why give up assets for Vesey and Miller or sign Johansson?
He absolutely is interested in short term fixes, but his "fixes" dont fix anything |

Laine 13 goals 23 assists 34 points. In 34 games. Only 3 pp goals
Skinner 11goals 8 assists 19 points in 37 games
Still %1000 sure skinner is way better. Laine isn't the pp only specialist you claimed either.
I'd rather have laine still %10,000 |

Maybe jbotts is waiting for HIS draft picks to develop?
Trading "assets" in hockey isnt a big deal
We didnt trade any 1st round picks
Do you ever step back from the ledge?
It's all day everyday. Then when someone you bagged on probably 1,000 times in posts, does well: you simply say " I said Larsson was playing well"
One time, and it's all forgotten. Seriously, JBOTTS is playing the long game. Probably following directions from above. When were close to making a run, he will make a trade or 2.
I'm not trying to insult you, but you have to look at other sides and points of view. Your narrow minded and post the same thing regardless of how many posters try and reason with you |

Those moves aren’t the same as overpaying for someone though.
Miller and Vesey cost nothing
Johansson was free.
Giving up prime assets for a short term 2C is a different story.

Patrik Laine is on a line that’s similar to what Skinner was on last season.
Connor and Scheifele are a million times better than Johansson and Sobotka
And Laine still has been pretty mediocre |

I'm fine with giving stuff up, more than fine, but rather than the scattershot technique, let's give up that stuff up for one good player |

So you rather have laine. I agree.
Good post.
Nobody on Winnipeg is close to jack eichels ability. Certainly not scheifele.

Nah I’d rather have Skinner. Easily.
And I couldn’t care less about what Laine’s point totals are while he’s playing with 2 guys who have multiple 30 goal seasons already. |

The old tim Murray approach.
1st round pick
Lemieux (1st pick in the 2nd round)
Stafford (1st round pick)
Myers (1st round pick and calder winner)
Armia (1st round pick)
For bogo and kane.
Kane got us a conditional 1st rounder and a bit more
Bogo is the worst contract over the past 4 years, excluding matt m
I'm good not making a similar trade.
We have talent, were just young. Cant force guys to mature. That's when we rush guys.
*miller for a 2nd and 5th in 3 years. He holds similar value, if not more |

It's not just points. You're the stats guy.
Skinner is not as good. has a worse contract and is older
Hopefully he turns it around.
Laine's 5 x 5 #'s have improved dramatically.
I think that was part of your argument.

It's the equivalent of paying $20 for an arms-length worth of 50/50 tickets at your local elementary school fundraiser. |

Mittelstadt not panning out is what disappoints me the most. His plan was not flawed at all to say the least, his scouting department may be though.
We can’t miss on top 10 picks. |

Tim Murray was a bad GM
I'm talking about Jason Botterill. His opposite approach of spending a "2nd here, a 3rd there, a 4th here" did not work
If he had consolidated his picks for a trade and gotten one good player, say a 2nd line center, we wouldn't be having this conversation

A lot of our issues could maybe be solved if the coach would put Sam at center with 53 and 90 and move Vesey to Eichel’s wing. But they won’t |

Updated stats to reflex skinner NOT playing with eichel?
This years stats? Laine all day everyday.
As much as I like skinner and wanted to sign him, its looking like a big mistake. |

😀👍
Difference is the raffle tickets are worthless after the raffle has ended.
We still have assets equivalent to the picks we gave up.
Miller might be worth more, now that we paid another year of his contract. Vesey and holding some $ at the deadline could bring back a 3rd + |

Yeah I don’t know what to tell you.
Skinner is playing primarily with one of the worst 10 centers in hockey and another winger earlier this year that was statistically the worst forward in the NHL last year.
When Skinner inevitably turns it around with better line mates we can all pretend he found his game again |

What do you mean " it did not work"?
Were in a playoff hunt.
This is jbotts 3rd year. Nothing has been proven yet?
You arnt getting a 2c for a 2nd, 3rd and a 5th.
Come on, your better than this crags.
I think we're doing fine. New coach, new players.
Hutton has been a huge disappointment.
Things would be different with a solid #1 goalie.
Bitts is grooming that guy now - 6k |
