Just out of curiosity I’d like to see what first line centers make around the league.ones not on entry level contracts and signed in the past three years. To make a fair comparison.

As I said yesterday, Hayes is NOT a $7 million dollar player in my opinion, but it’d be interesting to see. I’ll research it.

i agree he's not a 7 million guy. but he's not overpaid by as much as people are acting like he is. but i also agree, that for the cap hit he has, he should be putting up points more consistently. he's been streaky points wise, right now he just happens to be on a good streak.

Hayes is currently being paid more than Patrick Bergeron. Now I understand salaries go up and Bergeron’s deal is an older one but even if I am wrong, Hayes is being over paid. If Vigneault decides to put Giroux to center today, we have a third line 7 million dollar center. That’s not good.

right now, point producing centers are making like 10 million. he's not being paid like a first line center. you think couturier is going to be getting paid 7 million when his deal is up?
- Ftown19125

What is Couturier getting paid TODAY? If he gets hit by a bus tomorrow and dies he will never get another contract. So is he a first line center? yes or no? how much is he paid? If you answered yes to the first question than your initial observation that first line centers are making 10M would be incorrect, wouldn't it?

There are 6 centers making 10M or more a year. 2 are on the same team. The both cant be first line centers can they?

It’d probably be easier, because I’m all about easy, to see what 50 point centers are making around the league.

The correct argument is what would a legit first line center get paid in free agency. Comparing older deals and young players still on RFA deals is not an equal comparison. The Flyers would not have gotten Hayes for what they did if he had first line center UFA leverage.

couturier signed his deal 3 years ago. hayes signed his deal before this season. it's not incorrect, that's what they're going for right now. i didn't say all first line centers make 10 million either, so i'm not sure where that came from.

yeah i thought that was implied. we're talking about hayes' contract. he just signed as a ufa. apparently everything has to be spelled out here haha.

My guess is that if giroux goes back to center it's because one of couturier/hayes/frost are hurt. PatricE Bergeron signed his deal in 2014. Him being overpaid is a different argument.

First line wingers get paid more than 7m so a 7m first line center not couturier is a rarity. Am I missing any first line centers making 7m or less?
Kevin hayes, for his entire body of work, is worth 7m, imo.
Matter of fact if we didnt have Hayes our team I can promise you that this would not be aa fun of season as a flyere fan. Kevin hayes is the type who fills a void your team needs without going out and having to mortgage the farm to make a trade.

This is why guys go to free agency....they get paid and they get paid well.
But again, for all that he has been doing for this squad, he is worth his price tag.
I do hate the NMC but it's the price of business at free agency.
I'm very happy with this team and every on it, which I didnt think I'd ever say.

Before someone talks about Chris stewart... he plays 3 minutes one or twice a month. Shut your face

The key is to get players locked up to deals during the RFA period. Look at the contract the Jets signed Mark Scheifele to. They have him locked up through his age 30 season at 6.1AAV.

If Scheifele and Couturier make it to free agency no doubt they are making in the 10M per year range.

Your coffee must taste great pretty much every day.

Hayes is probably overpaid a bit, but that’s what happens when you sign UFAs. The cap hit of his deal didn’t bother me much, I was more frustrated by the term. I was really hoping for no more than five years, but it is what it is.

Looking back on it today, I’m very glad they signed the ugly (frank). Who knows when Patrick might return or if he’ll be able to stay healthy and ever reach his potential. Outside of Frost, I don’t see another center in the system with top 6, or even perhaps top 9 potential. Hayes might end up being a key player for the Flyers for quite a while.

Skating looks good, some nice edge work and he's been a staple on the USA PP. Canada's top talent is just better, Laffieniere/Hayton have been pretty dominant.

So you are arguing that over $10M is the going rate for 2nd line centers???
