Interesting post about the careers of Briere and Drury post 2007. Drury was a complete tire fire, Briere was his usual offensive self but struggled mightily defensively.

It's always easy to look back.
A few things happened that changed how effective both players were post July 1
The NHL went back on their penalty standards, injuries to Drury didn't help either.
Both players went to teams with super high expectations (Drury with Gomez was supposed to be the second coming)
Like I said it's easy to look back and say it now but had Briere stayed for the $5 million per year the Sabres would have been much better off even if Drury did walk
