GMs be lining up for job after GMTM was poop canned. They’ll be happy to stay unemployed when this brain damage inducing GM is let go. I’ve been saying it for years folks and it really isn’t even close.

Uh. Tell me how the GM who traded ROR... didn't trade ROR? - U Sir Name
He didn't trade a Conn Smythe winner. He traded a Lady Byng winner who played in a total of 13 playoff games and was an Allstar one time in 10 seasons in the NHL who no longer wanted to play here. |

Do you have the details of his contract? He might have some sort of non-compete or the amount some other team would pay him is less than what the Pegulas are still paying him. GMTM has enough friends in the biz. |

I can’t stop laughing.
It would explain a lot. I joke that he is borderline retarded. I don’t really think he is, but I do think he is slower than average and something is off with him. I’ll have to read up on Asperger’s.
I enjoy your posts man. - Beethoven

When you're still being paid millions of dollars to not work for your last employer, there is literally no reason to find a job. |

Did Carolina trade us a 40 goal scorer as many on here like to characterize Skinner? |

And he got a lumbering ram-rod and a 30 year old man with a perpetual pre-pubescent moustache in return for him.
Also, Montour if you count that 1st he traded that came with the deal.
Typical Buffalo mentality: Cater to the entitled cry-baby instead of telling him what his role is and putting him in his place and telling him to do his god damn job because he gets paid to do it and if he doesn't his career will die and be buried with this team...
Instead, he punched a 1st class ticket to the Stanley Cup for him. |

Agreed. It does mitigate the blame to a large degree. But we should still be able to critique his performance.
He has had three years. He hasn’t addressed the obviously soft roster. He brought in ten NHL caliber defensemen with obvious needs at forward. He kept the last coach too long.
He was quoted earlier in November as saying he thought we had the players we needed at forward and that injuries were to blame for the lack of scoring. He obviously doesn’t understand that wingers need a center to help them score. Injuries aren’t an excuse, they’re an expectation.
You are right when you say it takes two to tango and if he doesn’t have a trade partner he can’t really do much. But he should have addressed this in the off-season when it would have been easier to make a trade for a center or add one via FA. Foresight and having a realistic grasp at what you have regarding your roster is something you need as GM.
This is a results based business. You have to find a way to get it done.
I expected improvement over last year and right now I don’t see it. Eichel is having a break out season and is a superstar now. Risto is having the best season of his career. Our young players are a year older and more mature. He swindled Chicago with a steal for Jokiharju for our garbage and I give him credit for that. Yet we are only marginally better than last year.
Our special teams are terrible which is on the coaching staff. But he hired the coach and that’s on him too.
I am sorry he was dealt a bad hand. But it doesn’t relieve him from criticism of what he has and hasn’t done. I think there are people out there that could have done a better job. Maybe I am being unfair. But that’s my honest opinion. - Beethoven
Yeah... i keep hear ppl say this
Except the options in the summer weren’t great
Kadri was the only 2C trades,
and the Leafs weren’t moving him to us
Who could Botts have gotten?
Oh wait, i forgot
34yr old Soderberg who was a 3C with an NTC
And Haula,
another 3C who was coming off a major injury
So tell me...
What UFA 2C could Botts have signed?
What ACTUAL 2C could he have traded for?
We all thought Mitts would take a step forward this year
Why shouldn’t Botts have thought the same?
His backup plan of MoJo was just as good at the time as Haula, or Soderberg, or whatever other 3rd liner Botts could’ve reasonable gotten

They traded him to us and he scored 40 goals.
So, yeah. That's literally what happened.

You literally cannot know this.
I would have sent them Ristolainen for Kadri and a 1st and never thought twice about it. And they would have accepted it.
Divisions don't mean anything anymore. We play every team at least twice. I do not fear playing against Ristolainen just like literally no other team in the league fears playing against Ristolainen.

Ristolainen is a player with tremendous upside.
He plays physical, he is big and he can put up 40 points a year. He doesn't seem to get injured and he can be a real pest to play against. He was a top-10 pick, is entering his prime and has a great contract with term left.
I neither over nor under value Ristolainen.
He should however, at the very least get us a middle-6 player and a 1st round pick in return.
We need a middle-6 guy more than we need Ristolainen. |

No they traded us a 30 goal scorer for nothing. Skinner getting 37 goals is closer to a '40 goal scorer' than a guy with 13 total playoff games being a Conn Smythe winner. |

I know I’m going to take heat for this, but even if the best way to maxmize the return we get for Risto is to trade him for picks and prospects I do it. |

I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt, however this is the offseason for him to make his mark. No more excuses when you have 80% of the team on expiring deals. |

I wouldn’t give you heat, but I wonder what Botts would get for Risto in terms of picks/prospects. 3rd and a C+ prospect? We would be out from under the contract though, if someone can take it on. |

Divisions do mean something
Remember when Ottawa got p!ssed that San Jose turned around & flipped Hoffman to Florida?
Sure, scrub for scrub trades happen
Ex: Zaitsev+ for Ceci+
But you’re naive to think the Leafs would trade Kadri to us unless we majorly overpaid
And that would’ve been dumb

That type of thing was said about trading ROR as well
It’s dumb unless you’re getting one hell of a prospect
And that seems doubtful |
