He got us in the playoffs

Correction: He scored a goal that clinched the playoffs. Derek Roy had 4 more points in 29 fewer games.

Sure, let’s say playoff contender. Let’s operate under that assumption

This roster is sooooo bad, that Erik Haula, perennial 3rd line center, who’s shooting a ridiculous 24% this year (which he more than likely doesn’t do here) makes us a playoff contender?

So which is it? Is the roster just so poorly constructed that we need so much or are we just one piece away from beginning to contend for the playoffs on an annual basis?

- sbroads24

I said we'd make the playoffs with a 50 point 2C. If he stays healthy and scores at his current rate over the next 42 games, he'd be at about 46-47 points. So I'll say probably. It would be close. It's undoubtedly a better team.

With that and one other move like a Burakovsky, or Soderberg or something else, I'll say 100% yes

would the oilers to this.

Trade:

Buffalo trades Risto and Mitts & first rounder Lotto protected)

for

RNH and 2nd rd pick

- hehateme

Why would Buffalo do this?

Talk earlier was Risto for RNH straight up

Now throw in a young Mitts and a 1st rounder to get a 2nd rounder?

Ehh I mean I get it but I don't like it

The point is, there were options, despite your contention to the opposite. He made this roster. His decisions. And who knows what other deals are available that he passed on in favor of his defensemen?

You're operating under the assumption that he only makes - and would make - good deals. That assumption is suspect at best based on his track record

- jcragcrumple

You’re saying Soderberg was an option when you don’t even know if he was

Honest question
In the summer, who would you rather have had for 3C...
E Rod at 2mil
or
34yr old Soderberg at almost 5mil ?

And I’m not taking a shot at u here
I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Botts to have not had interest in Soderberg

Botts was clearly aiming higher,
as he should’ve been

You wanna give him crap for striking out,
ok

But bringing in more overpriced middle6 talent is not how u build a Cup Winner

Bottom line
He was forced to trade ROR
He’s tried to trade for a legit 2C
He’s passed on the 3C types ppl are saying he should’ve gotten instead
We are waiting for the guys he’s drafted to be 2C to develop

Maybe an Eric Staal type is a possibility at the deadline?
Soderberg & Haula weren’t great ideas at the time
Probably weren’t even good ideas
And it’s more than understandable why Botts passed on them

he loaded up on d men and expected to move one didn't

his soccer coach is wrecking casey instead of making him better

this is year 3 for botts, and he was suppose to turn this corner

they simply have not

if you think pegula is fine with this result, you might be in for a surprise after they clean out the locker room this spring

- homiedclown

Which is completely fine with me as long as Botts thinks he has another year and doesn’t go full Murray in an attempt to save his job

Agreed
And way too much

Plus, idk how EDM could even consider moving RNH at this point?
They’re gunning for the playoffs

He struck out looking. Did not swing. That was unacceptable.

Most of us here realized he was in the market for a 2C

But did he know that? Or did he think Mitts and Mojo would solve the problem?

That's a real possibility. He may have bad judgment when it comes to forwards. His track record indicates that's a real possibility

We shall see how he works out, but Rochester was 58-31 when he played and like 31-44 when he sat, he creates space, which the Sabres need

A move like this reeks like desperations

Giving up a 1st which at this rate could be in the top 10 (unless he said protected 1st) EDIT: He did

and Risto for a season and a half of RNH?

Also like you said I don't see Edmonton moving him

That we don't know for sure

Teams could have said no to what he was offering

Not saying I disagree with you about a move needing to be made and be made a month ago but we don't know that he isn't trying

I love how you said in the last blog the 49ers fans should be happy about sucking for the past 5 or 6 years because their DL is super bowl caliber...

Completely glossing over the fact that they traded for Jimmy Gorappolo and we saw exactly what that team would look like without a QB last season: Terrible.

You really do love writing your own narratives on literally everything.

I'd say you're probably a glass half full kind of guy because you look at the glass and say: "Well, that empty half had nothing to do with the full half, so it must be the fountain of youth" completely ignoring the fact that the other half was soluble in water and you're drinking both halves anyway and pretending it's not Propel fitness powder in a bottle of Fiji.

1) it’s been well documented that he’s been looking for a 2C

2) no one here but Gerbe thought Mitts was gonna be a bust this season
We ALL thought he’d take a step forward
So was it really ridiculous that Botts thought the same?
And his backup plan if Mitts did struggle again,
was a signing that everyone here liked...
Correct?

I’m frustrated too dude
But not that we didn’t get Soderberg
That’s for damn sure

Try selling 10 season tickets worth of seats. 👇
- Boss34

10 is definitely a little much ....... aka you have those seats to resell and try and make money. So that is on you for having that many seats.

Sure and how many elite QB’s have missed the playoffs due to having lass then stellar defences ?

If you watched the game last night you would have seen the record the Seahawks have had at home since the Legion of Boom was disbanded, 11-9.

You don’t draft Arik Armstead, Nick Bosa, and Deforest Buckner if you don’t suck.

The 49ers and Ravens ran the ball more than everyone else and each won their conferences.

Goroppolo is a good QB but probably the 5th best QB in the 6 teams that qualified in the NFC.

What was your feeling on mitts before the season?
Guy lost weight, looked to be taking training serious
Lowered his body fat considerably

Guy was a top 10 pick, 21 years old.
Fair to assume he could play at least 2/3 center this season?

I know you had erod penciled in at 2c.

Can botts be blaimed for guys just not performing on the ice? Not Living up to his expectations ?

Sure, but some has to fall on the players like mitts, rrod , sheary , vesey and Johansson

Risto one of our better players this year. Why trade him? Time to tank, hopefully get lucky on the lottery, ditch all the dead weight, build a real team this summer then sing Botts praises or fire him by November

Its definitely on me. I actually agree with one of your posts.

8 in a row is awesome to bring family and friends. Hard to find at the arena. The leafs, bruins, Canadiens and a few other teams sell for quite a profit.

If the Sabres were just competitive into march, things would be much different. The Bill's winning actually hurts ticket sales too. Its still football season to most buffaloians.

$$$$$ if were ever good. BIG EVER
