It's never been called a touch back ever. Letting the ball bounce in end zone is a touch back. Signalling for a fair catch is a touch back. Taking a knee is touch back. Catching the ball and fumbling it is a fumble, regardless of your intent. There's a reason no one catches the ball in the end zone on a kick anymore.
