Cozens definitely had a quiet but very good world juniors. He was overshadowed by lafiere or how ever you spell it.
- Sabretooth9

Agreed. Laferriere was kinda like the McDavid this year. Commanded all of the attention and media coverage but Cozens was stellar by all reports I’ve read

The experts are saying Cozens was the most consistent and steady offensive player in the tournament. With 2 goals, 7 assist and a team high +6, they said he created scoring opportunities almost every shift. Great news. He looked fantastic the bit I got to watch.
Gerbe, your buddy Caulfield had 1 goal, 1 assist and was a minus 1

Analytics are going to love him.

Beast on the forecheck, top end speed, positive impact on both ends of the ice.

A lot of his production came on special teams in the tournament but there were a lot of things he did well that didn’t show up on the score sheet and he ultimately deserved the stat line he had.

Still question the “top end” skill but he definitely has the makings of a 55-60 point 2C.

I think his speed and shot would work well on Eichel’s wing as well if it comes down to that.

He’s the polar opposite prospect of Mittelstadt. Not many peoooe questioned Mittelstadt’s top end skill but questioned his strength and conditioning and speed, Cozens has the physical attributes in bunches. He won’t be flashy but once he fills out his frame he’ll be a pain in the a$$ for d-men in the offensive zone.

I still think he plays a lot like Eichel. Just less skilled.

Both love rushing the puck end to end
Excellent speed
Good skaters
Good shot

Cozens is a little more a grinder down low with his speed that Eichel but Eichel is super skilled.

I think the Sabres management likes pilut alot too. Not sure if he would be a keeper over :
Dahlin
Risto
Joker

If they protect 3 defenseman in th expansion draft.

At some point maybe a team wants borgen, Samuelson or Johnson?

Just like the Buffalo Bill's, the Sabres have added veteran guys to each position to help the kids.

Nobody is trading anything good for those guys

- Boss34

I wonder if Botts has loaded up on young defensemen/ d prospects bc he’s looking ahead to the expansion draft & sees us losing a defenseman
Likewise, might he keep McCabe & Miller around and try to get Seattle to take one of them,
instead of say Pilut

Just a thought

Cozens is lanky though, Eichel is a physical specimen who owns the gym.

Cozens needs to have that kind of mentality, same with Dahlin and Mitts.

I assume any team will want us to eat half. So is there a team that wants him at $2.6?

I still go back to the jets

Do you want a bad contract back? Maybe Mathieu Perreault would wave his no trade.

Erod+ bogo retained at half for Perreault. Not a great trade but it's a trade. Money works.

It dumps the malcontents

- jcragcrumple

I could see something along these lines happening
Or we could just get a pick for Bogo,
then turn around & use it to get a Perrault type player

Unless we can get a legit 2C though,
i still think the best move is to try Sam back at that spot
Especially once Skinner is back

If we're really feeling crazy

Bogo to the jets for big buff no cash retained

A conditional 2nd if he plays one game at RW. Another 2nd if he plays next year.

ok, why not?

Probably right... but I’d love to know why not

Maybe your source would have an idea?
Could it have been brought up & Sam says he just wants to stay on the wing?

They could all use some more strength/muscle
But what young NHLer doesn’t?

I really wanna see Dahlin start becoming a more physical presence, like he had been before he got here
Bulking up a bit might give him the confidence to do so

It'll be interesting to see if there is a market for Bogo, and if so, what it is.

As for Sam at 2C, there are some factors to consider. He's up for a contract. He'd need to be willing to potentially take a production hit. Also it seems to me that once Housley pulled the plug, that was it for the organization. Last season Eichel got hurt and they didnt try it.

Interesting that Krueger said the organization sees Mittelstadt at center long term. I dont think they want to repeat turning a high pick into a winger

I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up on the wing at the NHL level but id love a top 6 of:

Olofsson-Eichel-Cozens
Skinner-TBD-Reinhart

Yeah...

1) Pk cost 1.4mil more, as u said

2) 3 years (at the time) left of PK is way worse than 1.5yrs left of Byfuglien

3) essentially getting Byfuglien for free

4) Big Buff adds toughness & can play wing

So yeah...
there’s 4 solid reasons that Byfuglien would make more sense than PK

But sure...
u could also convince me that Byfuglien at 7.6mil is a bad idea & we should look to spend that Cap hit elsewhere

In no way whatsoever does it mean a PK Subban trade would’ve been a good idea

We are in pretty dire shape at 2C though
Is Sam really that slow that it isn’t even worth trying?

Just seems odd that he hasn’t gotten another shot

Would be cool if u could find anything out for us!

Cue 89.... “botts ain’t retaining poop”.

You’ll see bogo gone at the deadline for the coveted 6th. Which is basically a 5th. And that’s IF he is still healthy by then which is about a 60/40 gamble.... not in the healthy category.

Bogo May be the one asset botts gets nothing for....

- Gr8daygo

I thought about the production hit as a factor
But wouldn’t moving back to Center add some value for him?

I guess i thought it would cancel each other out

As in right now,
we have 3 options for 2C moving forward

1) try Sam back there
2) Cozens
3) Mittelstadt

Since Cozens & Mitts aren’t ready yet,
we should try Sam for the rest of this season
He can always be moved back to wing

That would let us ease Mitts &/or Cozens in on the wing, or at 3C

If Sam doesn’t work,
then we still have MoJo as a placeholder to give the kids 1 more season of development
