Why complain about Botterill 50 times a day for months about trading a defenseman for a forward, then bits basically teades scandella for frolic.
And you wish they kept the pick now?
You just like to complain.
Or maybe you dont like to complain, but it's your personality and you cnt help it?
This isnt a Stanley cup caliber team.
It's a long term process
You cant see this? - Boss34
Boss, this just undercut your entire argument.
Why the hell are we trading for an old bottom 6 winger NOW? Yes, if he had done it in August, maybe it would have helped.
Even then, it doesn't address the primary needs of the team. Everything he does is the opposite of common logic. The season is cooked, and we're trading picks for UFAs? Everyone said he would never, ever do that because he's thinking about the future. And then he did it.
Whatever. He's doing an excellent job, carry on. Secret tank, yada yada yada |

The Frolik trade was to get a body in here up front because he needed one. If even Tage Thompson were healthy, I don't think that trade is made. The only other option is Mittlestadt, and he just got sent down, so they're not going to mess with that. This are plenty of criticisms of the job Botterill has done if you want to go down that road. This isn't one of them. |

Why spend the assets if you're not trying to win? Why fire the coach last year if you're not trying to win? To me, people are ret conning the season and saying "we were never supposed to be good anyway."
Botterill said the opposite. He said they had to be in the conversation for the playoffs. He thought this team would be better. As for your cap space point:
$33m -
Re-sign:
Olofsson
Montour
Reinhart
Replace or re-sign
Girgs
Larry
Erod
Bogo
Sobotka
Frolik
Sheary
Vesey

True.
I personally hate the "loser point".

4 on 4. 10 min. No score. Call the tie, split the points. I hate the loser point. And I hate 3 on 3. It’s a gimmick like the shootout. Do you ever see 3 on 3 in regulation? It’s not part of the game.... |

Last season he had 16g 18a all even strength expect for two goals which were short handed. He kills penalties which we need help with. 4 wingers on IR. A 4th round pick, which we got for a UFA defenseman, is not going to make or break the future of the team.
If we traded Scandella for Frolik straight up would you be this upset? - adambuffalo
No, but I was very happy when I heard it was a 4th.
Then pissing it away in a lost season for a rental with 5/5/10 who played 4th line minutes making $4.6m...all the while he is Cap strapped. He certainly wouldn't be expected to replace Olo or Skinner, that I am hopeful we can all agree on...Girgensons, ok...but he ain't hurt.
The PK sucks because of the system this year.
For the most part, the same players did above average last season in a different system.
Sorry, but this is putting flamboyant pink lipstick on a 2 week old rotting corpus.

Lots and lots of mediocre hockey gettin' played by our team. The only thing that keeps me watching and rooting as a fan is the fact that every year only One team wins....everyone else are losers. Last year we finished the same as every single team not based in St. Louis (and fuuck ROR), which is to say, we did not win. TO didn't, Tampa didn't, NYI didn't, Chicago, Pitt, San Jose, Nashville....all losers just like us. This year we will be losers again but it's still fun to watch NHL hockey.

My only thing w 3 on 3 is that the games won't go on forever. More ice means more scoring opportunities. |

At the same time, though, you have to have signs that the process is working. They have Jack Eichel finally living up to his billing as a Hart Trophy caliber player. After that, there isn't much. There are a few individual players having good years (i.e. Olofsson), but nothing that moves the needle.
His criticisms of Botterill are over the top, but it's getting harder and harder to defend the job he is doing by the day. - buffalofan19
Skinner- via botts trade
Olloffson- handled properly by jbotts
Johannson? - should be better
Asplund- handled properly
Ullmark - protected in expansion draft
Dahlin- slam dunk pick
Joker - top 4 defenseman
Pilut - botts guy, looks good
Miller - looked like a steal early on
If his goal was to win next year, what's the problem?
He was stuck with bogo
Stuck with moulson for 2 years
Stuck with okposo.
Its not that hard to see the future.

I turned the game on late...somewhere in the 2nd period, watched for 10 minutes, was boring as hell, turned it off.
Heard on GR they mustered 2 shots in the 2nd.
But, Good news, advanced stats say they increased their shooting percentage significantly by Jack scoring on one of them! |

That's not a Stanley cup move, but it's what you wanted.
Trade 1 of the zillion defenseman for a forward.
Sabres are trying to win, not tank in my opinion.
Could we possibly use frolic until our forwards are healthy (3 -5 ) weeks. Then trade frolic at the deadline?
That makes alot of sense. Not trading futures tonwin a few more games this season |

They've needed that for two years, though. If he had addressed one of those, and I was as optimistic as anyone up until training camp that he would, it would be a different story. However, filling both those holes in one offseason is difficult, no matter how much cap space you have.
