Ya, you keep focusing on this year for the 2C acquisition.
It isn't about this year, it isn't about acquiring a rental.
It is about making a hockey trade for the long term.
I've been steadfast in that, so not sure why you continuously refer to this year only, unless trolling.
Adding a qualified 2C to this team, one of the top 5 positions on the roster is an imperative IMO.
if Cozens, or Mitrs, or Byfield develop into a 2C in a couple years...guess what, you can sell one of them ... I mean if nobody trades them cause they are valuable, I guess a valuable piece would come back in a trade. - IonSabres
Bc the general tone from the Botts haters is that he failed to get us a 2C for THIS YEAR
Not trolling at all
Simply just pointing out,
that Botts objective is to build a Championship Contender
There’s no way that could’ve been done this year
Best he could’ve done...
Let’s say Risto for Kadri...
Maybe that gets us into the playoffs,
but we’d still get thumped |

True. I realized i left him out
I still think he’s a piece I’d try to trade.
But that could be my own bias. I’ve never been a fan of his. Still would love to be proven wrong & see him become a 25ish goal scorer for us
I’ll happily eat crow if that happens - jdfitz77

Ok.
Most Botts-realists on here go back 2 seasons for the 2C...especially after he traded for 30 yo, 27 pts/year Burgland to find his game once again, lol. So more than just this year, but whatever.
This past offseason, moving one of the 12 NHL defensemen, and one who said he wanted out for a bonafide 2C in Kadre would have been smart...but, in his defense Risto's value was very low. They should consider moving him now after Kryeger has repaired him nicely. |

I get their frustration
But it’s also obnoxious to have to see these overboard posts day after day after day
Especially in posts like fattony’s where he call out something commonly held to be true as unsubstantiated,
then goes on to make the same type statement himself - jdfitz77
Dude, saying Botts made a bad trade is not unsubstantiated because you believe “it’s the best he could get”. You could say that for any bad trade then. “It’s the best that GM could do”
These same insiders also said at one point Kane was gonna be traded for multiple 1st rounders but he was holding out for more, only to trade him for a conditional second and again defended him for “it was the best he could get”
Not one person from any major network or insider said Botts was forced to trade Oreilly. And it is universal that the return was bad. If he couldn’t get one substantial player you don’t trade him. He was under contract. People ask for trades all the time. Smart teams wait. Stevey Y waited a year and a half to trade Druion. He didn’t sell low, he didn’t take scraps. |

Your wish is my command.
Here's a few examples from today of people saying the things that JB have done are Ok because it's not as bad as GMTM:
And
And
And
That's a fraction. People depend on comparing him to Tim Murray to make him look like a good GM - jcragcrumple
It’s like talking to a brick wall jcrag. The blind loyalty to a GM that has sucked is unfathomable.

I’m sure the Jets said the same thing about Chevy when it took him 6 years to turn it around.
If Botts doesn’t make moves this offseason and we don’t make the playoffs next year, he gone. |

If he traded risto for kadri and it got us into the playoffs we wouldnt be..
complaining about a theoretical loss in the playoffs
female doging about how botterill has 18 dmen
(some)calling for yet another house cleaning and to tank, again
complaining about wasting eichels prime years away
wondering when 11/7 will end, because its laughable to simply roll with it
The list goes on. It all has to do with winning, and the fact that building a contender doesnt have to be synonymous with continually reaching for the bottom |

It’s been pretty well covered that he’s tried
Kadri wasn’t realistically happening
If u really wanna examine what’s Botts has done at Center...
first thing Botts did was draft Mitts
His next pick in his 1st draft, another Center in Davidsson
I’d say Center was a top priority from the moment he walked in the door
And he fortified the position even more in the future by choosing Cozens this past draft,
over Wingers like Caufield, Boldy or Podkolzin, and defensemen like Broberg or Soderstrom
Yes, he’s failed at bringing in a 2C for right now
And his band-aid attempts to bridge the gap have been failures, or just ok (MoJo)
But again...
he’s trying to get us to be a Contender for years
Not the 8th place team NOW |

While that’s mostly true,
Botts was told to trade ROR
If u don’t wanna believe it, i can’t help u |

He set himself up for this offseason, if he doesn’t hit it out of the park I’ll join the dark side if this team is not in the playoffs next year.
However, if he gets fired and his draft picks pan out, he will have been the most important GM this team has ever had and the next GM will get all the credit. |

Except that wasn’t really ever gonna happen
No other 2C has been traded
So u can keep complaining,
but Botts is doing a good job building a contender
Yes, he could’ve done a better job trying to bridge the gap at 2C
That’s hardly worth calling his job horrible |

Maybe we didnt have enough or the right pieces to land kadri
My point is anyone who says they would be upset with getting beat in the playoffs this year is a liar |

If Jack has to wait 3 more seasons until Cozens and UPL are impacts to make the playoffs he’s gone just like Oreilly after asking for a trade. |

Does Risto for Kadri make this a playoff team? It's still a very weak middle 6 with no depth and weak goaltending. |

I wasnt arguing whether it would or not.

That’s not at all what i meant though
I’m just saying we likely aren’t gonna see Botts do something drastic to get a 2C now,
and that his focus is first & foremost on building a team that can compete for the Cup
He’ll try to bring in players for now to help,
but not at the cost of major assets

Just like OV demanded a trade from the Caps after having to wait over 10years to win a Cup
Just like Stamkos left Tampa bc he got impatient
I can go on & on & on
But you saying Jack will demand a trade is just more pure speculation without anything to back it up
WHERE’S YOUR CONCRETE EVIDENCE?

It’s gone from 8 to 10 to 12 to 13 to 18 Dmen that Botts brought into the season. By the end of the thread it will be in the hundreds. |
