That's a big question that probably requires a longer answer than I'd prefer to type out.
That's a bar conversation. We need a few more years to see how Jason's past 3 drafts turn out, generally. CM clearly needs more development, Cozens is unknown to be totally fair, and Dahlin could be picked by my dog. There's some promising players floating around, but it's generally too early.
With the roster clearing of a ton of expiring deals, he has a real chance to do some good here. Or not. He's making it harder and harder to trust him. He's made good moves (Montour, Skinner, Miller, Jokiharju, Pommer), bad moves (God) and a couple whatevers (Frolik, Sheary, Scandella, Vesey). You discharge some of these useless contracts (Sobotka, Frolik, Bogosian, Vesey, Sheary, Hunwick, Wilson, Erod, Girgensons) and you're able to look at blockbuster trades, maybe a big FA, and some better depth signings that are more effective than what we have. Then you have to hope you acquire everyone, or almost everyone you want.
I guess I'm just saying I have no idea if I can trust his ability to make this team an actually consistent, good team. |

Not a bold choice, but it was possibly the most obvious trade in the world for everyone involved now tat it's done.
Kinda stupid it took this long. - BINGO!
Athletic says Montreal wanted Scandella for a while. So yeah, what the (frank). |

If you believe incarcerated bob, there was a large trade with NJ that involved multiple roster players that fell apart.

Well,
-Not a Rental
-Not a guy who costs more in the meantime.
Should have kept the 4th, much better use ... could have reduced his Cap by the prorated share of Scandella's $4m.
Frolik is going to outscore Erod by??? 5pts? Soooooo heeee daaaaa - IonSabres
I don't want to be the 'I need to defend Frolik' guy today. But if he's more effective than Erod on the ice, has a better impact, and you manage to trade Erod, then good for Buffalo.
Jason knows we need actual scoring help, and I don't think he does this move if it's not part of a larger scheme. There will be a few more shoes to drop. And I'd be willing to bet we'll have to continue to be way too patient. |

I don't, guy's a scum sucker.
And hey, we still have dmen to deal!
Give us Kyle Palmieri!
They won't. They'll give us Miles Wood and we can continue to hate our team. |

That why i used organization instead of just Botterill. I feel the same about the Sabres as I do the Bills that I dont trust them..... will it change i hope so but for now I dont. Sabre wise if you can give me a legit bonafide NHLer ill trade my 1st in a heartbeat. Also, if im Botterill i would be looking to move it because the guy they take this year he probably will never see on the ice if this product continues. |

Don't want to tangent but I trust the Bills much more than the Sabres.
The UFA class was excellent overall. They have real depth. They have a QB that EVERYONE said would fail, yet here we are in the playoffs. They have the 4th highest amount of cap space in the league going into the offseason. Other teams want our depth players. Our entire draft class from 2019 looks like they can all have an actual impact now and into the future. And we own a top 5 defense.
The management still is acutely aware that 'they're not there yet'
The Bills organization is leagues better than the Sabres. |

Unlike the Sabres offseason, I'm extremely excited to see what Beane does this spring with the OS and draft.

I think the Pegulas mandate to the management of both teams after both the Rex Ryan and Tim Murray episodes was "don't embarrass us". Beane and McDermott have lived up to that mandate. Botterill hasn't done that yet either, but he's dangerously close.

I give him one more offseason before I call for his head. There's a ton of cash falling off the cap. He has real chance to do whatever he wants to reforge the complimentary forwards and defense. He has two cornerstones. Regardless of whether I trust him to succeed, he has a real chance to do some good here. If he flops, he needs to be fired into the sun. |

I agree,
Bills 1 or 2 moves away form the Div Title
Sabres are 1 or 2 moves away form saving a riot down Washington

Do you trust him with the Cap and flexibility?
Not, does he have a chance to make it better, of course.
Do you think he will? |

Fair enough.
I'm in the same place, but fall to the side of giving him the green light...but very nervous about it along the way. |
