Hes not going to chop his hand off cause of a cut on his finger.
The deal is almost over

No, I get that. But wouldnt clearing $2.6 in cap space and getting rid of DJ Douchenozzle for nothing be a win of itself?

If you get a 4th or 5th, bonus

I dont think we're using the same terms. I mean retain half his salary for the remainder of the year in order to acquire a better asset - or any asset. I'm wondering why he wouldn't do that
- jcragcrumple

It would honestly depend on what's on the table

2:59 TDL day, Zach Bogosion offer is a 4th round pick with half retained, I think Jason takes it if he doesn't have another move lined up.

If he finds himself at something like the Scandella deal, he takes a bad pick then uses maybe a better pick to get x player.

I thought at first he was trying to package Bogo and EROD but that doesn't seem to be working out.

Problem is, how many teams have the X player they will move.

Right.

We just don't know. Too many ways to go about it. He could very well retain and still pick up a young, low sal player.

Imagine if he was moved for future considerations. I'd laugh.

The way Friedman spoke, made it sound like unloading Erod was priority 1. Because any Bogo deal is going to be much harder.

Conditional future considerations is fine with me. The condition is we never have to speak of him again

He almost played himself onto this roster. A couple years ago, I think he makes it. The depth, or whatever you want to call it.. has.. um.. improved I guess.

If he builds on last year's camp, I have little doubt he makes this team. At the very least, he'll get his 9 games.

- TheSabresTaco

Cozens has the talent
It really just matters if he’s able to add enough strength & weight so he isn’t getting knocked around all year

Well yeah.

ifs buts candies nuts and all that.

Been saying all along, no way Sabres don't make a concession to get rid of him.

- TheSabresTaco

If we keep half,
I’m sure we could move him at the deadline

Wouldn’t expect much back though
Maybe a 5th if he’s playing decent

He's an aging center with a year and a half left on his deal at 4.1M. The Sabres would first need to figure out how to unload Bogo for nothing. Then, they'd have to figure out how to not use good assets to get Bonino, because it's not like he'd make the team that much better. He's a complimentary center that, frankly, is absolutely a 3C, no question about it. Then, you have to figure, do you want his salary taking up a 3C next year, with Larsson providing exactly what Bonino does with a third of the cap and half the points, along with Asplund and maybe Lazar doing just fine, and may be looked at next year for center depth.

nashville paid him what they paid him because they wanted a premier defensive center in UFA. Do the Sabres need that guy next year, or do they pay Larsson and give a much better player, more suited to actually play 2C Bonino's salary?

I contend this team is better off acquiring a 2C that costs more maybe for a year or two while Cozens and Mittelstadt develop. And keep Larsson. Regardless of whether that's done in February or the summer.

- TheSabresTaco

If it’s a legit 2C, then sure...
if it’s not a bad contract

For example:
I’d rather take Bonino for 1 more year at 4.1mil, and not have to give up much
Over trading good assets to get Ryan Johansen for 7 more years at 8mil per
And he’s a MUCH, MUCH better idea than Turris

Yeah, Johansen is better
But not 4mil per better
And Bonino fits our timeline, and team makeup,
much better
He can hold down the 2C till Mitts or Cozens is ready
And then we could potentially re-sign him,
and move him to the 3C “2way” role
And that lets us get rid of Larsson if we want after next season
And open up that spot for a kid with more scoring potential
