😂😂😂Everyone needs to C-H-I-L-L-A-X. Sabres are actually really good. Just been playing really really good teams. They’re 3-7 in their last 10. They’re allowed a stinker every now and then u know!!!! Not seeing the generationalness in Dahlin is laughable!!! 😂😂😂

This team is better than the worst Sabre team.

I think 90% of Hockeybuzz plays too much GM mode on NHL '19.

On "easy" mode.

Maybe I am wrong here but the Sabres may be lucky if they have 2 20 goal scorers this season?
- rapperray

4 is a pretty sure bet. Even with the injuries.

Not sure what that means....you would have waived him and hope someone else claims him?

Didn't the Sabres have the option of walking away from the erod arbitration?

Buy out?

Isn’t that what Darcy did with Tim Kennedy? I can’t remember.

Neither. The award was too high to buy out and too low to walk away from.

I get that everyone is mad about everything, but that one is tough to criticize.

Kennedy was a buy out. Dumont was a walk away.

We need better goaltending. We could never win a playoff series with the quality of goaltending we current have.

The prospects are two to three years away at minimum, probably longer.

So does Botts try to improve the goaltending in the offseason via FA or trade? Or does he wait for the prospects to mature and hope for the best?

Rumor is Holtby will be a FA this summer.

Why do you think UPL is so far away? I think he's going to see NHL games next season.

Cozens and Mittelstadt are realistically two to three years away in development until they’ll be ready to be an impactful 2C.

Botts can not ignore the 2C in the off-season. If he can’t find an adequate one in FA he needs to trade for one. Cozens or Mitts should have to be so good they steal the job from someone, not rushed into it out of desperation.

We also need a couple more middle six forwards. Maybe Mitts and Tage pan out and take some of those spots. Maybe we get lucky in free agency although it’s unlikely. It wouldn’t hurt to draft high for another difference maker.

How long until he becomes a solid NHL starter is the question. Hutton is under contract for another year. Ullmark is an RFA and will be resigned.

Unless an injury I don’t see a spot for him to get games next year. Also, I don’t think he will be ready so quickly. I can see him getting some time as backup after Hutton’s contract expires. And a year or two after that I see him winning the starting job. That’s four years. Rarely do goalies develop so young.

I think you're very pessimistic with 4 years. It's really in UPL's hands. He could factor into things very soon. The job is sitting there for him to take. Most teams are forced to use more than 2 goalies, and eventually we'll have to.

I brought Holtby up last night
He’ll definitely demand big $$$, and probably 5yrs or more
I wonder if he’s slipped, or if it’s just bc the Caps have been losing defensemen steadily over the last few years
Worth exploring though

Some other UFAs that got brought up:
Crawford, Greiss, Halak

I think Raanta could be an interesting trade target from ARZ

Would be nice not to rush him

Sign a solid Vet for 2-3yrs
When 6k is ready, he can take Ullmark’s place as the backup
And whenever he becomes the best goalie on the team, make him the starter & we still have a good Vet backup

Unfortunately...
I don’t think we are getting a true “2C” until either Mitts or Cozens (or both!) develop into one

My favorite trade target as a placeholder:
Bonino from NSH
He’s more of a 3C, but again, i don’t think we will get an actual 2C
Bonino is a solid 2way player who scores almost all his points 5v5 and is a good PK guy
Has 1year left after this at 4.1mil

He’ll be 32 to start next season
So we could let him go after next year if we think Mitts & Cozens are ready
Or we could likely re-sign him to a reasonable deal for another year or 2 or 3 even
And when one of the kids is ready for 2C,
bump him down into the 2way 3C role that he’s proven good at

That also would potentially free us up to drop Larsson, and use a Center with more offensive skill in his spot

That is the problem... Right now based on his "potential" they can improve up front with a trade... In 2 or 3 years "if" he is a bust they would then be stuck with him and his contract...

I hope you’re not lumping me into the “Dahlin sucks” folks. He’s incredibly young, had a great year last season, and currently having a tough run.

I brought up QH in response to someone wanting to know about a game changing young Dman. I’d still rather have Rasmus.

Man, Jack seemed agitated.

I keep reading this, and it's simply not true.

He had a difficult start, and has been very good since he came back from the concussion.

Oh that’s right because he was so damn important to this team that they decided to take him to arbitration.

Regardless you have 3 disgruntled players currently playing or sitting that we know of. A team that is pure garbage with a superstar that has zero help.

Real good job Botterill.

But at least he is not Tim Murray, so he has that going for him.

- ImThatGuy

I have zero idea why they continue to play Bogosian while feeling completely comfortable sitting Erod. Bogosian is beyond horrible.

Am I imagining things, or did Botts say that we are supposed to be competing for a playoff spot?

Even with the injuries to Skinner and Olofsson, I don't see how we are going to see any improvement other than 8-10 points in the standings.
