Again that is not what I said.... I said IF he does not pan out within 3 or 4 years he becomes useless as trade bait... I will give him the sophmore slump thing this year but IF he does not develop further next year or beyond his value is crap...
- rapperray

He's on pace for a statistically better season than last.

Even if his defensive zone play doesn't come around (and by most accounts, it will) he's still a valuable trade chip if he's putting up points like that.

Not accurate... Please explain what else the Sabres have to offer other teams in order to improve up front? They simply have no ability to develop their own players in the AHL... Been that way for 10 years....

You would be the guy that traded Hedman after his second year as well. Look how that turned out. I'll go on record as saying if they trade Dahlin in the next 5 years because of anything other than constant injury, I'm done with the org.

I'm guessing McCabe and Miller?

I'm ready for McCabe to move on.

All this stopping and starting with Miller, though? If he was good enough to play in VGK's top 6, then he should be good enough here.

You need a #1 defenseman as much as you need a #1 center to win a championship. You don't trade either of those to mask your shortcomings on a roster. Anyone else should be fair game.

Sad thing is, I don’t see us making the playoffs again next year. We are two years out from being a marginal playoff team.

Getting a 2nd line center slots a lot of players where they actually belong, even on this roster. The question is whether or not Botterill is capable of acquiring one, and the answer seems to be leaning closer to "no" with each passing day.

Just checkin to make sure I'm not banned. For some reason the gold 3ER posted last night got deleted? Like my uncle always used to tell me, when you're on top, everyone wants a shot at the belt.

I agree and BoGo was terrible...
Montour is a RFA. He certainly could be traded soon for some value. Maybe get a 2nd.

Would Clark Macarthur be the last forward who went to Rochester and got developed to become a "important" part of the team?

I’m not sure the comparison holds up. Lotto numbers are random. Hockey teams’ success is far less random.

While it is too early to declare next season dead, it would be following an established pattern and I understand where he’s coming from. If I were to think of a word to describe the Sabres, it’d be “stagnant”.

I guess if you don't count Victor Olofsson.

Without getting technical, the organizations ability to develop prospects has been pathetic. But several players have gone through Rochester to play here. If you don't want to count Ristolainen, you can count McCabe, Ullmark, Olofsson as 'important' players, and hopefully add Asplund and Mittelstadt to that list too.

Id say a decent benchmark would be 2 seasons or 100 games in the AHL (as a min.)
he wouldnt fit that bill with 1 season 66 games

The Sabres need to win 2 out of every 3 games played, plus get some loser points to get in to the playoffs.

AKA, no chance in hell

It reminds me of when I played HS baseball, what good did it make that I reached base if nobody was good enough to put me in position to score.

Same thing with all his talent in the world what good is it to skate or pass if the person on the other end isnt talented enough.

Dahlin passes the eyeball test 9/10 times, unfortunately like Eichel world class talent being wasted.

That changes the argument then. Essentially you're talking about a mid round pick. The Sabres have been atrocious at depth drafting the past 15 years.

Hopefully the trend bucks with Borgen, UPL, Pekar, Smith (developmental UDFA), Thompson, and maybe eventually Ryan Johnson, Laaksonen, Weissbach, Davidsson or Bryson.

Home- 13-5-3
Away- 6-13-4

We got a chance if we can somehow move every game to a home game
