I watch but I tend to drink more as the games progress..

Take a drink for every successful zone entry with possession of the puck. You’ll be ...wondering if you have a slight buzz by the end of the game.

What I love most about the Buffalo Sabres is that for the last 10 years, the organization is being run exactly like I run it in NHL Be a GM mode
- BeadyEyedDouche

Bro you must suck at Be a GM Mode then.

I once simulated a season and won 70 games.

Spent 80% of the cap on elite talent with the other 20% on guys on ELC’s that are legit.

Here is part of the problem... Pegula buys the team and boldly announces the goal is to win the cup in 5 years...... This built up the expectations of many of us "OG Old Guys" who have been waiting so long. Now we see another 5 or 10 year wait until MAYBE it really happens. It is called frustration and this forum is where many of us vent..... Cut some frigging slack here...

I get the complaining, but bring something to the board other than :

We're wasting jack
Botts needs to make a trade
Sabres season is over

I like to play the top 6 game.
Other than Jack
How many players could play on the top line on a playoff team in the league? maybe 1
How many can play 2nd line - 2 people
How many can ply 3rd line

- hubie

That’s an interesting way to look at it
We can also try to out depth teams
Many of the really good teams are very top heavy
Just look at Boston, Toronto & Tampa as examples

If we can have a top6 that’s at least competitive with theirs,
the hopefully we can build a line3 & line4 that gives us an advantage

Think back to ‘05-‘07
The Drury line & Briere line weren’t as talented as other teams’ top lines
But our 3rd line dominated pretty much every team with Vanek-Roy-Afinogenov
And our 4th line usually had the upperhand too

Marco Rossi, Anton Lundell, or Quinton Byfield would look great as the 2C

Lucas Raymond, Tim Stutszle, Alexander Holtz, Cole Perfetti, or Alexis Lafreniere would look good on Jack’s wing.

Botterill set himself up for this offseason, he needs to hit a homerun with the pick and making a move for a veteran 2C while the kids develop.

Briere was #10 in scoring in 06/07, only 5 centers had more points than him.
Pominville was 51st in scoring, Only 9 RWers had more points than him.
IMO that’s pretty talented.

Man those were fun years.

😟😢 RIP Neil Peart.
Legendary drummer and songwriter. Rush's music has been a big part of my life and, simply, of me. His music will live forever.

Why spend the assets if you're not trying to win? Why fire the coach last year if you're not trying to win? To me, people are ret conning the season and saying "we were never supposed to be good anyway."

Botterill said the opposite. He said they had to be in the conversation for the playoffs. He thought this team would be better. As for your cap space point:

$33m -

Re-sign:

Olofsson
Montour
Reinhart

Replace or re-sign

Girgs
Larry
Erod
Bogo
Sobotka
Frolik
Sheary
Vesey

That money is gonna go real quick

- jcragcrumple

So let’s say after resigning the RFA’s we have $15M left. (Sam, Olo, Monty combining for $18m per).

The only UFA I’d bring back personally is Larsson so that leaves us with $12-13M

If we move one of Risto or Montour+ for a forward upfront I’ll call it a wash with the money going out and money coming in.

Give Lazar a raise to $1M and that leaves us with $11-12M to spend on 2 other roster spots.

Olofsson-Eichel-______
Skinner-Trade-Reinhart
Mojo-Cozens-Okposo
Asplund-Larsson-Lazar

Dahlin-Montour/Risto
Pilut-Joker
McCabe-Miller

Thompson, Ruotsalinen, Mittelstadt already on the roster counting on the cap that can crack the lineup as well next year or including in a trade to bring in a 2C.

Now in my scenario that leaves us with $11-12M before free agency. Now Botts has to make the hypothetical Risto/Montour + Mitts/Thompson..... trade to make this all happen but to say he doesn’t have the ammo is false. Spend to the cap this year and figure it out next year.

The following offseason Mojo comes off the books and the salary cap will go up and that will most likely cover most of Dahlin’s cap hit (let’s assume $8M per)

That is a giant assumption based on how Botterill normally does business.

I think it might just be easier to keep tanking, than to try and put a winning hockey team together.

I agree. No way Dahlin gets anywhere close to 8 mil. Prob going to be a 3 year bridge deal around 5-6 mil a year. Then we will see where he is at.

big game for rochester tonight

for a team with only 8 or so prospects left on the roster, they are hanging in there

Well I mean it would have helped if Yakupov wasn’t a bust and they didn’t give away Hall for nothing. Also would of helped if they didn’t trade a first rounder (Barzal) for Griffin Reinhart.

The only thing stopping tanking from being a success is ineffective management.
