My own source told me he ultimately decided he didn't want to pay for an injury prone power forward into his 30's. Not to mention the off ice discretions.
- TheSabresTaco

I’m sure that factored in,
but I’m also not doubting that the Pegulas said they don’t want Kane back

The problem with your argument is that with the roster you posted we don't have Dahlin or Montour. That leaves you with who on defense? Also, no starting goalie. In addition we have at least $14.5m (Kane probably would have wanted more than the $7m he signed for in SJ) on our 2nd line without a RW.
- adambuffalo

This is just a complete list of what he was given when he took over as a reply to people who said he wasnt given anything.

That's where I'm at. Difference between 12th and 8th is 3.5%. When you're picking lotto balls, those chances may as well be equal.
- TheSabresTaco

Yeah, for me at least, that extra 3.5% is worth cheering against your team on a nightly basis

I mean I gave you a literal list. It's all there 2 pages back. It's not going overboard to state the facts.

The fact is he was given a lot, and he's kept a lot. But what he's added has largely been ineffective or simply not impactful enough. And for as poopty as Murray was - and make no mistake he was poopty - he left Botterill all the 1st round picks going forward. He didnt spend more picks than his share of time.

- jcragcrumple

If we go off of the premise that Botts Ain't Goin Nowhere(s), I want to give him an opportunity to work with a roster that's losing a lot of bum contracts, and see if can maneuver with the cap space he has this coming offseason. I think he starts the offseason around 10-12M in space with no trades or FA signings outside of Larsson. Cap includes Ullmark, Reinhart, Olofsson, Montour, Pilut, Mitts, Thompson, Cozens.

The FACT is that he was forced to move 2 of the major pieces you listed
And the manner in which he was forced to do so contributed to getting a lesser return than he could’ve

You seem to want to ignore that instead of factoring it in

Just goes to show your bias

They did (not want him back). But it's not like they had to have major discussions about it. No one wanted him back.

and Botts will use it to select a D man probably.

he needs to address the 2nd line.

- SabresFaninIndiana

Jamie Drysdale is pretty, pretty good.
If they were to draft him (I'm NOT advocating for it mind you), then he can move more Dmen out and reset with a very young, very high caliber Dcorp....probably behoove him to sell Skinner too based on a new timeline.
It is fun to think about...absolutely hilarious!

No, I didnt ignore it.

I said he did fine with Kane.

If you want to blame Pegula for the other guy, fine, but finding a replacement in the last year and a half is on Botterill.

And the things that work on this current team are overwhelmingly from previous regimes. That's a fact too

Joe Yerdon's take on trying to trade Bogo:

https://theathletic.com/1...narios-for-zach-bogosian/

In a nutshell, it's extremely difficult. Executing the move is probably not that hard, but living with the concessions of that move in all likelihood don't make a lick of sense.

I mean you can look at the roster I posted at the top of the page. With Dahlin, Montour and a RW the roster is done and in the playoffs

- jcragcrumple

That's not what you said though. I was replying to the point that we would still have no defense, starting goalie or cap space to call the roster "done and in the playoffs"

Skinners contract would be harder to move than okposo’s right now imo.

Edit: skinners contract was virtually immovable the day he signed it. Woof.

He could have tried harder to find a better serviceable 2C, but he could also find an even better one when he has $10m in cap space freed up.
Also, the second line was doing fine before injuries happened. They were leading the team in EV goals even though everyone hated Sobotka there. That line was entirely brought in by Botts.

(1/2) The @MapleLeafs announced today that defenceman Morgan Rielly underwent a CT scan this afternoon after sustaining an injury in last night’s game against Florida and will be out a minimum of eight weeks with a fractured foot.

Ok, now I call Toronto and offer McCabe, Miller or Bogo for Kapanen. They just got Johnsson back and won't miss Kapanen's scoring.

Skinner and Mojo had 7 and 4 goals respectively in 15 games (equals out to 60 goals in 82 games) with Sobotka and have 4 and 2 respectively since he was injured.

So a 75-80 goal scoring 2nd line

Yeah I'll take that

Sure, I didn’t dispute that, but a $17M line should get you 11 goals in 15 games.
