I hear you loud and clear and generally agree with you. I think Cozens is different as he is posting great numbers and can play RW while he transitions his game to the NHL.
Now if we used Mitts and Tage + ; I'd be all over it.
Just not Cozens

It wasn't meant to be an easy question.

I know folks have soured on Mitts, but he's too talented to throw in the towel just yet.

Why does Eichel always skate by his teammates after a goal when they are trying to high 5 him?
- lulags

Cause he wants to get traded

For those pondering about Lazar and his individual impacts, this was written last week. https://www.diebytheblade...buffalo-sabres-bottom-six

What this tells me is that he's definitely exceeding expectations and is a helpful player to the bot 6. Doesn't address the scoring, really, but he provides more than enough for 700K.

- TheSabresTaco

I’ve been saying since we acquired him he is a damn good player with 15 goal potential in a full time role. I would dare to say 20 goal potential with the right minutes on this team is a possibility. I love his intensity. It’s desperately needed here

If the Sabres didn’t dump away the Canucks game this past weekend.

I would’ve felt good about this past week or so of Sabres hockey.

We need to put a 4 game winning streak together to get us back in the hunt for a wild card

Would anyone here trade Cozens for one of Duchene or Johanson?
- TheSabresTaco

I would for Johanson. He's always been the "guy" wherever he's played and has always played well. Imagine what he'd do behind Jack getting second pairings and playing with Skinner. Sam is probably a casualty if this (never actually going to happen) trade occurs.

Cozens has the potential to be the best player we have seen besides Eichel in many years. Firm no on trading him

Right. And you'd be adding 8M in RyJo, needing another RW1, RW2, and a defenseman. And don't forget about resigning Dahlin/Oloffson. Someone would be the casualty if they got another 8+M player. That said, Sam would fetch something good as he's still a RFA correct?

RyJo would be the second best player on this team now, and frankly wouldn't be close. So you are trading a could be for a sure thing. I love Cozens and by no means am I trading him lightly. But RyJo isn't a number 2C in this league. He's a legit 1C and has proved it. So you'd be trading what you hope Cozens becomes for some that exact something.

has the makings of a top line center in the NHL, as he has shown an awareness and playmaking ability that teams would covet next to their best goal scorers. That’s not to say he can’t score goals himself, either. He has the speed, work ethic, and smarts to be a great two-way player who can excel offensively.
One scout I read (see below) compared him to Tyler Seguin

Puckhandling skills are excellent and he is able to create scoring chances in almost all of his offensive-zone shifts using his great vision,

sets up scoring chances using accurate, hard passes…always in the action and loves being the go-to guy…can beat defenders or gain the zone by utilizing this hands, feet or brain…a potential future top-line, two-way guy.

This cant miss Sabres Prospect is now in Rochester and only playing so so

BUt we cant deal him for a 2C either cause we cant give up on him

Year after year we talk about how great our drafted center will be and yet they never came.
So he may be more like Moses

I believe Botts is well known as the numbers guy so I trust him.
We would have control of those guys.
Would have plenty of time for the like of
MIller,Montour,Mcabbe
Sheary, Mojo

all guys who wont make the roster when that money is needed

It’s a dangerous game to play, trading away your future for players now. What would you expect an unproven Cozens to bring? I guarantee you the return is not worth the investment

Rumor has it his teammates are largely invisible for large portions of the game.

Maybe. Like I said, not trading Cozens unless I feel the player coming back fills a major hole and isn't way past this teams age. RyJo fits the bill. 27 year old, #1 center for a long time would absolutely kill it behind Eichel. Cozens may eventually get there, may not. It's a risk you take trading for/away any player, but if you're too gun shy to make the team better short/long term, a GM job may not be for you

Cozens can fill a RW spot though.

Casey should be the first option in a trade.
