Interesting take...
But here we go.

Recent Center acquisitions (< 4 years)

1-JT Miller
2- ROR
3- R Strome
4- Tavares
5- Schenn
6- E Staal
7- M Domi
8- Seguin
9- Zibanejad
10- E Lindholm
11- D Strome
12- Duchene
13- Kadri
14- Soderberg
15- Hayes
16- McCann
17- Eller
18- Bonino

That's from top 65 point producering C's so far this season....I stopped looking there.
Alert: C who moved, includes FA acquisitions like Tavares, not limited to trades.

The point is, the BS of C not moving needs to stop from the Botts-defenders.

Going back 4 years? Great
Why not go back 20years???

ONE 2C was moved this past offseason- ONE
And the Leafs weren’t trading him to us

Frolik has played, I've heard his name called 2 times in 4 games.

Why is Dahlin getting 10 mill? did I miss something.?
- SABRES 89

Yeah, I’m thinking 7-8mil 3-4 years. Then he will he the big deal once he is a top 10 int he league guy

I saw a lot of Mittelstadt in Zegras watching the WJC, now that Pronmans article is basically a comparison of both reinforces that.

Mittelstadt’s fall from grace is polarizing. He has elite raw ability though and it’s up to him to put on the work ethic to get there.

Him figuring his poop out would really help this team take the next step.

Idk that Bjugstad is any better at 2C than MoJo,
do you?
I do know that MoJo is a better player

- jdfitz77

Yes. Yes I do! Because he is actually a center! And it puts the better player in his more natural position. Making the team better overall.

Dahlin is not 10 mill a year player, we should see more after next year and go from there.

What are the penalties if any if he retired say at the end of the year and was given a nice front office position
- hubie

You mean if he was “concussed” and went on LTIR... none.... or he borrowed Hossa’s jock strap for a game at the end of the year and was “allergic”.... none....

Ill admit part of me is just over the waiting game.
Ive just seen a lot of guys with all these great scouting reports not pan out
For me personally Strome and Domi are two that come to mind I loved scouts loved were cant miss and well they missed

- hubie

Initially they failed to develop as quickly as we all would want.
All are on track for decent seasons, and I'd be fine if Botts targeted any of the three.

I like Gallent. I wanted him here when Florida let him go. But we had DAN! Gallent seems to always work well with the younger guys. He got a ton out of those Florida teams...

The argument is 2C(+) don't get moved.
It is false.
That's it, pure and simple.
No twisting, spining, nor justification is needed.

- IonSabres

A lot of those guys u listed aren’t “2C” quality
Some don’t even play center
And going back 4years is ridiculous
At most u should go back a year & a half to where ROR was traded

There’s also the “assumption” RyJo would actually want to play in Buffalo. That’s the Buffalo tax no many here take into consideration when throwing out hypotheticals.
- lulags

Well we'd have 6 years to try to convince him into a reasonable extension when he's 33. More like the too bad you're playing here or not getting paid at all tax that players (and generically people working at all) have to deal with.

With that logic,
Bjugstad is better at center than say if the Caps had to play OV there

Just bc someone played center more,
doesn’t mean he’s better at it

Bjugstad is an extremely average player
And is so good at Center, that he’s often been moved to the wing (at least with Florida, not sure about Pitt)

I like Ryan Johanson, just don't know why people are talking about him so much. He was traded 4 years ago.
27 y/o signed for 7 more years at $8m. Doesn't look too bad. Last 4 years and 45 games this year: 66g 199a. Sam Reinhart in the same time frame: 106g 140a.
RyJo career Corsi and Fenwick 51.8 and 51.4.
Reinhart's 51 and 51.1.
Johanson last scored over 20 goals 6 years ago while Reinhart has done it 3 out of the last 4 seasons.
I understand that we need a 2C, but I think that there are better options short term that could be a stopgap until Cozens develops or Mitts figures it out. The cost to acquire and salary could be better used.

You're probably right. Jack wasn't a 10M player when he signed his contract either. Was just throwing out a potential top dollar for him in a couple years. 44 points as an 18 year old defenseman. Just spit balling.

My opinion, but of course those numbers will start to look better when he's not the opposing teams number one attraction. Jack and VO or RyJo and Skinner, pick your poison type. Your assumption is that Cozens doesn't pull another Mitts and Mitts actually figures it out (both very well could happen, but are far from certain.)

Takes two to tango...Botts is square dancing.
Translation, maybe another wasn't moved because he wouldn't pay the price ( good, bad or reasonable)

The FACT is that about 4-5 move per season on average.

Reinhart > Ryan Johansen
RyJo is overrated
Was supposed to be the missing piece for Nashville
Didn’t get the job done
So then they went & got Duchene
Still not enough
Two overrated & overpaid players
No thanks to both
Especially for Cozens
That’s laughable

Going back extra years to try & strengthen your point is disingenuous
So is listing players that aren’t “2C” quality
So is listing guys that don’t actually play center
Come on now
