SO you dont want to watch Buffalo in the playoffs got it you made your point clear. Lower seeds never have won a cup right?
- hubie

I guess u just won’t ever see the forest through the trees

No I’m not interested in the race to 8th
Yes, a lower seed can win the Cup
It’s the exception
The goal should be to build a team that can compete every year for it,
not once in a blue moon

I was thinking more along the lines of giving up on Zibanijad for Brassard but that works too

Lets get on the same page here
To win thestanley cup you have to make the stanley cup you have ot make the playoffs? RIght, cant win the cup as the 12 seed right?

So making a trade to make the playoffs allows you a shot at winning the cup right?

Carlson and Kuznetsov were essentially good enough to play in the NHL right away.

Neither spent a full season in the minors.

- buffalofan19

Kuznetsov spent a few years in Russia though, why did the Caps wait for him to come over when they could of traded him for immediate help ?

I’m not saying Cozens is going to become Kuznetsov, but where’s the evidence to suggest that he’s guaranteed to become a Grigorenko ?

Even if Cozens ends up on the wing, his production at his salary is much more beneficial to the team then trading him.

Of course you have to give to get in this league, but I wouldn’t move Cozens for RyJo personally.

Caps drafted Kuznetsov, Wilson, Vrana, Carlson in the mid to late first round and developed them.

Imagine if they traded those picks to “win now” ?

- Pegullaville

It’s one thing to do that when you’re already a contender
It’s dumb to try & build your team into a contender that way

The way I see it, you just want to make the playoffs and pray for a miracle.
Others here want to build a contender that will be a threat to win the Cup year after year.

ANd what if Cozens does nothing?

Would have the same net impact of having too much dollars invested into a depreciating asset.

We can agree to disagree on what will work.

What we can all agree on is that what we have right now is not working and finding a solution, whether we agree or not, is better than sitting back and waiting another year.

Ask the Caps how they feel about the Forsberg for Erat trade & get back to me

Yeah, that’s more extreme
But the point is that Erat wasn’t the guy to get them over the top
And neither is RyJo for us

So giving up a stud prospect is a bad idea

- jdfitz77

Don't have to convince me, I voted No to the proposal.
You will recall a year ago at this time, instead of Byfield!!!, it was Cozens!!!

There is validity to the argument that the Sabres have mixed bag in development of young players, having bungled Mitts and Tage, so I get questioning it. As well as hoping Cozens gets to 0.7 ppg or better.

Apparently Cozens
Which is beyond ridiculous

- jdfitz77

The question was posed 10 or so pages back. it was simply to generate discussion. and it did not disappoint.

I would not give up Cozens. Some would. And that's their prerogative.

But making a bad trade can also hurt
Remember when everyone wanted ROR trades bc it wasn’t working with him?

How’d that work out???

Making no trade,
is better than making the wrong one

Sure
It’s not a guarantee that the youth will develop into the studs we need

But in a Salary Cap world,
you can’t trade your way from where we are to being a contender year after year

You do that by drafting & developing
Again, there’s no guarantee we do that

But I’m not gunning for a fringe playoff team that maybe gets lucky and has all the chips fall our way to make a very unlikely & improbable Cup run from 7th/8th place

They might have won it earlier in Ovi's prime?

If you swap Johanson with Scheifele you probably get a completely different discussion.

For as many draft picks that don’t turn out, there are just as many trades. I wonder if the Preds would rather have Girard instead of Turris at this point.

Kuznetsov was a top 10 C in the league that hear and had 35 points in the playoffs. Doubt you were getting that value in a trade.
