I think the Sabres are closer than people think they are, another legitimate 2C and a RW and this team should be able to roll. They have enough balance to fill out the 3rd line and already have a good 4th if they keep Girgs and Larsson.

They needed a center for 2 years and still nothing
- gerbe75pts

Well they drafted 1 but unfortunately he hasn't worked out yet, still hoping he finds his game

Cozens will fill one of the holes in the top 9.

Yes, he should help but I am still thinking Botts makes another move which gets us are RW.

I was liking Thompson’s game, it’s a shame he got hurt.

Yeah it is, and unfortunately it was to his shoulder, can keep working on his legs, but hard to buildup upper body strength.

The end of this year and over the summer is big for Botts. Fill out a couple spots, but the bigger thing is he should finally have some of the forwards he drafted hitting the organization to help with depth.

Personally, I rather he go for a 2C in the offseason to let Cozens ease in at RW and grow at his own pace into the 2C if he "has it". They can always trade the then 2C player, or depending on Cap slide him down to 3C.

I agree, I was just thinking he would use some of the cap space for the 2C, think it will be easier to trade for the RW then the 2C.

Who are you thinking of?
Thompson will get he shot again, but other than that I'm nor sure an NHL player is there, unless something like Smith on the 4th line to replace Girgs as an example.
Is that what you're thinking?

Ah, I get it...fill
2RW via trade this season
2C via FA during offseason
Right?

I forget the UFA list of C's, but I seem to remember the list being pretty limited

Cozens, Thompson will have shots along with Mittelstadt hopefully figuring it out.

Yeah but botts need an immediate fix ...... he can’t roll the dice on an “If come” and pray cozens or mitts is the answer.

Letting another year crumble is 100% unacceptable

All I said was Cozens will fill a top 9 role and Thompson will have a shot.

I never once said to not make moves in FA/Trades to find players that can help now and long term.

You also have Thorton, McKegg, Peca, Brassard, and the legend himself, Verone

Think RNH would be a decent pickup, him and Skinner could make a deadly duo

Olofsson-Eichel-______
Skinner-_____-Reinhart
Mojo-______-Cozens
Asplund-Larsson-Okposo

Reinhart is either 1/2RW

Skinner and Olofsson could flip flop.

Cozens could end up anywhere from 1/3RW

Asplund could fill the 3C role or could ride 4LW

Everyone else is in their appropriate role.

If these three guys elevate their games next year and do it consistently, this team will sniff the playoffs next year.

If Johansson turns into a player that 2014 draft won’t look too bad. Him, Reinhart abs Oloffsonn
- Fattony1187

That draft would get a lot better if JJ turns into a capable NHL goalie. It's that 2nd rd with 3 picks that really hurts. Cornel and Karabacek were bad picks. Frankly, Lemieux was a reach as well.
