Still wouldn't be surprised if Toffoli ends up here
- Buff36

The UFA list of C is brutal. Backstrom, Haula and JGP are really only suitable ones there. Haula playing 3rd line minutes, the other 2 are going to cost $$$. Maybe offseason trade is only viable option.

I wish Krueger would play Reino at 2C for like 10 games to see if he could handle it. If they are only going to make window dressing moves as 89 has inferred ( no major moves) then the season realistically seems shot with both Skins and Olo out...now would be a chance to see it while evaluating his full value to the team in a contract year.

It's an adjustment. He was playing like poop here before he was sent down, so why would we expect him to start lighting it up from game 1? The switch doesn't just flip. He likely moped around for the first week or so. All that matters is that he figures it out.

I hear what you are saying Bandito, makes sense. I just expected a better effort against AHL competition. Hopefully last night will give him a jump start.

Yeah, I really don't think there as far off as people think.
- Buff36

Thompson and Mittelstadt could have something to say about that lineup as well. Botts will also have some cap space to fill some of those spots.

I still think Risto needs to be moved for that 2C. Even if we have to add the 2021 first rounder.

Then your d-corps looks like this

Dahlin-Montour/Miller
Pilut-Montour/Miller
McCabe-Joker

Like I said the other day... It doesn't mean he has to give 100% either....

You've gone too far down the rabbit hole of nonsense with this if you truly think the competitor that Jack is won't try his best.

The best hope for a 2C is through a trade. Best opportunity might be on a pending RFA.

Sorry Sportrac has him as a FA after this year, but you are right

Think RNH would be a decent pickup, him and Skinner could make a deadly duo
- Buff36

Does Edmonton let him get away?

If only RFA.
A young 2C as RFA is going to cost assets the Sabres don't have as in not having their 3rd rounder in 2020 nor 2021.
Contract values between $4.6m and $8.4m require a frame own 3rd as well as additional picks.
I assume Botts won't go for over $8.4m
That shipped sailed.

I'm in an F it cap mentality, so I'd go with:

Dahlin - Pietrangelo
Montour - Jokiharju
Pilut - Miller
Gilmour, Borgen

Overall, the biggest need the rest of this season and the offseason is quality veteran support for the young players. The reliance on Mittelstadt, Thompson, and soon Cozens has to stop regarding making or breaking the team.

They will figure it out, like all good organizations do and like the Sabres need to start doing. No more using the excuse of the cap as a reason not to trade or go after players. The time has come to figure that poop out.

They will need to trade for a center if they don't like the UFA options previously mentioned as the UFA options, aside from Cirelli, stink.
