Anyone who is not an idiot or watches the games knows that Freddy has saved this season so far for the Leafs.

Freddy has been very good when he's been good. I like him, and I think he's underpaid for what he provides us as a team. That said . . .
I contend that Freddy does what you pay a top level goaltender to do. They are supposed to make hard saves. There's this weird narrative among the media and sportscasters that's created a storyline especially around Toronto that the goaltender is somehow not supposed to be making these saves.
Vasilevskiy, Bobrovsky, Holtby, Grubauer, Binnington, Price, Rask, Halak, Lehner . . blah, blah, blah . . they ALL make elite game saving stops. They all have a game here or there where they need to make five or six of these ten bell saves a game. It's not just Andersen (in terms of high danger chances against, Toronto is 21st; other successful teams like Washington, Vancouver, the Islanders and Winnipeg all are worse; Vegas, Carolina and St. Louis are in the mix with us).
Andersen is exceeding expectations - especially given the decade of mediocrity we experienced after Eddie aged out - but he is doing what he's paid to do - which is allow the team in front of him to open up and trade high danger chances.
