Eric Francis suggests 5 possible pending UFA wingers who the Flames may target.
Curious what everyone thinks the acquisition cost would be on these guys?
My predictions are in (brackets)
TYLER TOFFOLI, RW, $4.6 million - (2nd & 4th round picks 2020)
CHRIS KREIDER, LW, $4.65 million- (1st and 4th round picks 2020)
MIKE HOFFMAN, RW, $5.87 million - (2nd round pick 2020, 2nd round pick 2021)
ZACK KASSIAN, RW, $1.95 million - (2nd round pick 2020)
EVGENII DADONOV, RW, $4 million - (see Mike Hoffman above)

I’d prefer Kreider, but Toffoli sounds like the only one that would stick around and sign an extension, so I’d pick him to maximize assets spent.

Yeah he used to play with Monny back in junior and may be the missing right shot winger for him and Johnny. Then you could play Backs with Sammy and Dube making a pretty solid top 9 |

I do Ike Kreider.. but i think i like tafoli more.. the guy has game and comes with an excellent playoff resume. Come to play whenever it matters kinda sorta like Bennett |

I really hope that BT pulls something out of his hat that's completely unexpected.
Like an Anthony Mantha or something, or Josh Anderson. |

Anderson has 1 goal and 4 points in 26 games this year.
The guy's the next David Clarkson. Not the next Jarome Iginla.
Mantha, that I could get on board with. |

Toffoli would he my answer. He seems the most likely to sign an extension with us and stay here long term. He not only gives us that right-handed Top 6 guy we've beenooking for, it would also allow us to run Lindholm-Monahan as the top two centers (doesn't really matter which is 1 or 2) and move Backlund down to 3C and Ryan down to 4C. That's some really nice center depth.

Why are us flames fans stuck with that idiot Eric Francis!! If he suggests kassian one more time I will lose my Fukin mind |

Been saying a top 6 that pushes Backlund down to 3c and Ryan to 4c would definitely help our bottom 9. Run Backs with Benny and Dube and Ryan with Looch and Rinaldo subbing in Rieder when needed |

No way is Edm a seller. Francis says some things that make me nervous though...he obviously has some insider info. Him predicting JG will get traded in 2020 has some legs. |

I have no problem with it. AS long as we get a boat load back!! THe price should be high even if he is having a somewhat off year.
On a side note two game day blogs for NJ!! NJ really Where the fan base doesn’t give a poop if there’s a team or not |

In my opinion trading Johnny away would be a massive mistake.
You will not fined a single player that is making 6.75m and almost a point per game player. Once we lose him we will be looking for someone like him. FA don’t want to sign here and unless someone is willing to trade their top 3 pick for him we would likely be getting a player or players that require development. If we’re lucky their making the show in a couple years from the time they were drafted.
Flames have a 2 year window with Chucky being cap friendly Johnny still on the team and GIO not falling off a cliff. If we are trading Johnny its because:
(A) the Flames are not making the playoffs and they feel our window has closed
(B) management have proof of the rumors Johnny currently has around Calgary
(C) someone is massively overpaying
I just don’t see a way that sending Johnny packing improves this team in anyway.

IMO (C) would be the only way he gets traded this season but if we miss the playoffs or take another duece at center ice in the 1st round changes will come.

Completely agree. I don't see how trading Johnny right now possibly makes the team better. Francis is a moron at the best of times and I think he's just creating headlines.
It makes no sense.for Tre to trade Johnny unless someone is massively overpaying. Even though he hasn't been as good this season he is still on an incredibly team-friendly contract for a few more seasons.
I agree if the Flames miss or go out in the first round again changes to the core are going to be made, but I don't think Johnny should be top of that list. |

Flames' window pretty much closes this year. With Gio one year older, Brodie and Hamonic likely gone or needing a raise, Rass needing a raise, etc., and no one in the pipeline to fill any of these shoes on the short-term....Flames and likely to be a bubble/irrelevant team for a while (remember the 2005-2015 period?) if they don't make any bold moves in the summer.
So yeah, since at least a retooling will be in order this summer if the Flames are to remain a top team in the long run, trading JH might make sense if the return is good (something along the lines of Ty Smith, 2020 Arizona 1rst rounder, 2021 NJ 1rst rounder from the Devils).
Let's face it : as soon as Gio is not able to anchor that 1rst pairing at a top level anymore, the Flames are not scary one bit. We might as well prepare for it.

I agree, there’s no need to trade him unless it’s personal. We’ve been waiting a long time for a game breaker and although we haven’t seen enough of that this season, that’s what he is. Johnny wasn’t the problem last year in the playoffs, he worked his a$$ off. I blame Keith Tkachuk, MT had a massive game 1 being his usual sh!t disturber, when the camera scanned the Tkachuks, he diidnt look happy. I’m sure some words were said that affected the way Mathew played the rest of the series. Leave the coaching to the coaches, or better yet sign Keith as an assistant. |

Gio is still an All Star and Hanifin is only 22. As long as Valimaki isn't permanently broken and actually gets to play hockey, the Flames should have a rock solid top 3 by the time Gio slows down.
Or they could just trade for Karlsson. |
