You get what you pay for! He's a locker room cancer filled with surprises. Just ask LA Kings fans.
Even free your taking a chance with Koval Baby.

poor hyman. never gets any love.

and we have our version of kovalchuk. he plays on our 4th line.

that's nasty... who on the fourth line is as much a putz as Kovalchuk (i.e. Semin 2.0)?

I agree. Should've occurred when they were in the midst of that 8 game losing streak. With all the long term injuries it's going to be a tough hill to climb now

which key/core players are out for the Habs? is Price injured? Weber?

I'd rather have Kovalchuck than Weise and Hudon. Which tells you something about the depth in Laval. If he doesnt do the work, he's out, just like Semin.

They let fans in the locker room in LA? Sounds suspicious, like the ramblings of a jilted lover. Uncle Nate says he is great in the room, and what player would say anything but the 100% truth about a former teammate joining his new team

Gallagher, Drouin, Armia, Byron

Which means our only top 6 winger left is Tatar.

Being based in LA I can say that his teammates loved him and his shot is still there but the big issues with him are the decline in foot and hand speed as well as his non existent defense. Even with spotty playing. time he had 9 points in 17 games which is still better than Austin Wagner and last year I think he was 3rd on the team in goals but 16nth in playing time.

I'm a little confused as to why Montreal would want him, I had him pinned going to Washington or Boston but what the hell do I know?!

for the reasons you mentioned, I don't think Caps or Bruins wanted him. I mean two-way 700k/70k salary? no other team wanted him for that ?

Habs paid a good price for him no doubt about it.

Will be weird seeing him in a habs jersey though

I'm sure it also has to do with not wanting to bring up a prospect and burn a year off their ELC. Especially before the Seattle draft in the following year.

I mean I know Montreal has some injuries but from what I saw he'd be a real nice fit with Wash or Bos especially Wash with the Ovechkin connection.

His shot is still blistering but he just takes longer to get there and I think being away for 5 years just was too much. I thought he and Kopitar would be a good fit but he roams around so much he's hard to pair with a center who's used to a more up and down winger like say a Brown or Lucic.

Decent low cost, low risk moves for an injury riddled team sliding out of the playoffs. Scandella might be a solid addition. He’s been good in the past. He might extend since he’s from there.

I do not expect Kovalchuk to do much. Anything at all will be a bonus. Bergevin was never going to sell futures for a short term fix.

Still don’t see them making the playoffs simply because they are too far behind and Kovalchuk won’t score enough to make up the difference.

Basically the equivalent of losing Glasshews, Snakevares, Marner and Overratedlander to long term injuries all at the same time. Not very many teams in the league have the depth to overcome significant injuries such as that and it's not like the Habs are getting smoked in games. They've been in most of their games still and even dominated a majority of them. The most frustrating thing is losing 1-goal games in regulation. You need to at least be able to get that loser point if you plan on making the playoffs when you get healthy again

You heard correct. Name a GM with a better track record.I'm not going to fault him for the inability to lure a big free agent to Montreal, that's a tax/language barrier issue not a Bergevin issue

His trade history speaks for itself:

-Weber for Subban straight up

-Turning Chucky into Domi

-Tuna, Suzuki, Norlinder, LeGuerrier for Pacioretty

-Turning Weise & Fleischmann into Danault & Romanov

-Drouin for Sergachev

-A 2nd and a 4th for Petry

-Getting a 2nd for Gorges

-Getting a 2nd and 3rd for Shawzy (whom unfortunately is sidelined by a concussion again)

-Cayden Primeau in the 7th round

-Getting Armia for eating Steve Mason's contract

-Getting the Queefs 2nd rounder for a playoff round of Pleks

-Somehow swooping in and getting the highly coveted Vanek for a 2nd on the Trade Deadline Day

This is just to name a few. Even his latest move, Reilly for Scandella and Kovalchuk. One can argue he hasn't acquired a franchise game changer but that was never the plan. The plan has always been to build through the draft and you're starting to see the fruits of that labour this year with the likes of Suzuki, Poehls, KK, Fluery, Meat, Primeau and you'll continue to see the influx of young high end talent coming in from here onward. In the toughest market in the sport he's done an admirable job to say the least
