I feel for you, at least your BB team won, the Eagles couldn’t get it done with their 60 year old QB, but there will be next year.

There is always going to be criticism no matter where the team stands, but to be insinuating that I don’t enjoy the winning because I think Green is over his head is asinine.

So the way I interpret his post is that if anyone on here complains about Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle, Schaller...etc, that means they don’t like the run the Canucks are on, because hey we’re winning no criticism allowed.

- Makita

Any criticism and you are immediately deemed a non-fan who doesn't understand the game. You are only allowed to heap praise on the players and the organization. You are clearly a slow learner.

Isn't that one of the stipulations on the cheer leading squad application?

I think you guys need to get use to the fact that Marky will be returning. When the GM says it is top priority then maybe he is trying to tell you something.

No team will trade for Sutter with his cap hit and injury history.

- VANTEL

I remember hearing that Benning had offers on Sutter but wasn't happy with the return at the start of the season. Thought Sutter was worth more. And then Sutter came out and looked awesome for 10 games and it made some sense. And then Sutter got hurt again and again...

Lots of options with Demko and Seattle if we want to protect him. Carol outlined in another blog how many great tandems there are in goal right now, and it’s not a given Seattle would want Demko.
- NewYorkNuck

I totally agree with this. I'm not too worried about losing Demko for nothing and more worried about his health. He's already had hip surgery and is developing a concussion history.

To put things into perspective, and something that seems to be forgotten, the last expansion draft we lost Sbisa.

I agree, we have an elite 2nd line centre in Gaudette, an elite 3rd line centre in Bo, and oodles of depth at the centre position in Utica.
We are so stacked at that position, we should trade both Sutter and Beagle.

- Reubenkincade

I project Gaudette’s ceiling as 2C. Imo it’s moot as long as we are 3 deep in scoring lines. Idk about stacked but Madden is looking good to break in as a 4C & go from there. Realistically we gotta move one of Sutter or Beagle sooner or later for cap space.

You don't move Beagle but Sutter for sure if you can.

Big issue is do we sign a 30 year old goalie to a long term contract when technically we still don't know if he's a #1 yet.

Maybe we should get assets for Marky now and let Demko take the reigns?

- LordHumungous

Too early to risk Demko being a starter.
Marky for 3/6m i could live with. Hard to halt progress by giving Demko the reins just yet.

Last expansion draft we were also significantly weaker with quality NHL players

that's pretty much the case with every sports fanbase though, I'm an Eagles fan and a Raptors fan and see it all the time with those fanbases, whether they're in the middle of a championship run or when they flat out suck, there's always players that specific fans will either love or hate.

That's why I don't really take people seriously when they complain that the Canucks fanbase doesn't support their players enough lol, it's usually coming from people who aren't aware of how other fanbases operate as well.

- Nucker101

Not so sure about that. I’ve heard multiple media members comment on how Vans fanbase is unique and (frank)ed. Both Burke and Freedman have said so in the last week

6 might be a bit low. Holtby looks to be the closest comparable in terms of age, and he is in the last year of his deal and is making 6.1 and that's with a cup.

True, but the point I'm trying to make is that deals are there to dictate who gets chosen. Lot's of them were made with Vegas by teams with more talent available at the time.

"Gear spent the last four seasons working with the Canucks as a hockey operations executive, handling player contract negotiations, Vancouver’s AHL affiliation with the Utica Comets and the business operations of the Canucks."

Sounds like he has had a hand in player negotiations, seems like a promotion for a job well done.

No one would want Beagle and what he provides for a 3 million dollar cap hit, he’s a replacement level fourth line center who’s excellent on face-offs but provides almost zero offence.

You can teach any bottom six player to kill penalties. Most of the time it’s your bottom six guys doing it, they can be taught how to use their sticks in the lanes and who cares if they block shots and get hurt. Your top six guys can’t get burnt out or hurt on the PK.

Now there are exceptions to the rule, I think McDavid kills the odd penalty because he’s light years better than everyone else, save a precious few, and he can kill you with his speed and wizard like stick skills.

Taking a quick look at the simulator, on my best estimate the players we'd have available are:

Forwards: Eriksson, Ferland, Beagle, Goldobin, Lind, Gadjovich, and 3 out of Roussel, Pearson, Leivo, Motte assuming we kept those guys.

Defense: Stecher, Rafferty, basically all other AHL guys

Goalie: one of Marky/Demko

To me it only makes sense to take the goalie out of that group. Unless Lind or Rafferty established themselves as a solid NHL player next year there's not a ton that is very interesting.

If Van wants to keep both goalies on the team beyond next year they will need to cut a deal with Seattle.

BS, Beagle is instrumental to this team and their current win streak, obviously you don't like the winning and ultimately you aren't a fan of the team if all you do is criticize the hardest working player

He’s a nice guy, but he’s not very good at his job....

Out of the 141 goals the Canucks have scored, he’s got one of those, and that went in off his ass. Our PK is 15th in the league.

Depends on what Francis is after. Another factor you have to look at, and something Vegas did very well, is expiring contracts the following year after the draft. This is what gave them the cap flexibility to sign the players they have and remain competitive after year 1. In that case, and I'm sure this will cause some guffawing, you might take Eriksson and eat his contract for a year to have the 6 mil for the next to sign a big ticket free agent the following one.

If I recall correctly Sbisa was such a player for Vegas. A serviceable body for a year and free cap space for the next. In my mind it turned out to be a really good strategy for Poile. That's with hindsight, but you have to think Francis is following along like the rest of us.

There is more to the game than goals, he plays an important role, really, really well. He was missed during his injury, and team losses were a result of him not being there.
