Matthews was -3 in game 7.

i dont remember exactly, but based on the score. there were 2 empty net goals?

anyways, big reason why plus minus is dumb. shouldnt count when you dont have a goalie in net.

....

....

Yeah sorry that’s not enough for me. Matthews is out there when the season is on the line. I don’t care if Marleau is a 0.

It’s something Keefe has done and it’s a big contributor to their strong record.

Are you not playing the (frank) out of Matthews/Marner in the Carolina game just because they were meh for the whole 2nd period ?

so he was out there for 2 empty netters? than he was playing late in the game?

bottom line, brewns pp dominated us for most of that series. our pk sunk us. (frank) everyone associated with that disgrace.

won't matter who we put on the ice if we don't put the clamps on their pp this time around.

Forgive me, I'm going to throw this up here again - mostly because I want to talk about the goals against:

Atomic Wedgie's Keefe's Leafs Extrapolatorator

20 games. 31 points.

Extrapolated over an 82 game season, that would be 127 points - 5 points shy of the Habs' all-time record. Washington is currently on pace for 120 - tops in the league.

82 goals for in 20 games. Extrapolated over an 82 game season, that's 336 goals. Nowhere near the 83-84 Oilers - 446 goals for. Yeah, doubt that one will ever be broken. But last year, Tampa was top team with 325.

54 goals against in 20 games. Extrapolated over an 82 game season, that's 221 goals against. Hold on to .HoHo.'s hat - that would have been the 5th best GA in the league last year. So for those of you who are saying that the Leafs are giving up too many goals under Keefe, it's simply not statistically accurate. In fact, it's wrong.

Goal differential: it would be +115 goals. Last year, Tampa was tops at +103.

Yeah, yeah, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts...

But the numbers are startling enough to force even Drunken Canuck and other haterz to admit that something pretty special is going on here.

Here's the thing - there are legitimate complaints to be made. The Tavares line was working in that game, but the Matthews - Johnsson - Kapanen line was not. That line was -7 in Scoring Chances generated, and had generated 0 High Danger chances. Why things were changed up or shifted around or otherwise attempted is the legitimate complaint.

But Matthews' line was terrible in that game. Nylander-Marleau-Brown were also useless, generating an equivalent 0 High Danger Chances, but they didn't give any up, either. The Matthews line were -7 on High Danger Chances.

It's revisionist history to be mad because they weren't playing enough. They weren't playing well enough. Babcock probably should have juggled his lines. He probably should have been doing it throughout the year so that the players could have more familiarity with one another so that if push came to shove, they could shift things around.

Regardless, he's gone, the players are playing better, and hopefully they will learn how to play through tougher times - because that's going to be the real test for Matthews and Nylander - show us you can step up when you're getting stepped on.

He was -2 at 5v5, so he out for 1 of the 2 EN. But he had 0 High Danger changes for, 7 against, 4 Scoring Chances for and 10 against.

not surprising.. Kap is fun to watch sometimes, but imo more of a lone wolf in that he doesnt drive play and create for his linemates so much.

anyways..thats something I didnt remember....Kadri out, Willie off AM line.
that hurts

but Keefe has rebuilt the top lines and so far looks better.,

Couldnt agree more. The coaching change should have been done in the summer as a result....but it was probably a respect thing between shanny/babs, and it took the team basically quitting on the coach to get it done..well expidited anyway.

Past is past. This is the leafs team I believe upper mgmt saw in the talent that they have and was expected to perform like. Are they perfect? no, but dam, this has been some fun to watch.

Not the first time this happened to the leafs, they pay a premium for some asset in the summer, and they were usually past their prime or didnt perform to expectation once they got here. notable mentions Nolan, Blake, Komiseric, Clarkson. and the saviour Ron Franchise. This time it was a coach.

During this great run, Tampa has actually made up ground and is now only one point behind with two games in hand.

Nylander has more goals than Laine. Obviously it's not even a discussion comparing Laine to Matthews anymore. That was just summer talk.
