Trust me, I was starching my head the entire time. I'm so confused, I don't really know what else to say. I know pickings are slim this time of year but god...

I wonder if they might use this year as a mulligan as maybe look to move out a contract or two to get some flexibility with the cap and a good young player who can help out now.

More than likely they're thinking they can pull a Blues and go on a run here but idk with the coach hire. Could be wrong

Maybe his brain was included in the Turris trade and is currently resting on Sakic's bookshelf. Great, Kevin Fiala 2.0 here we come... Unless there's a high-end defesman involved I don't trust Poile with high draft picks anymore.

I don't either. Was just thinking of Seth Jones last night when Mike Milbury mentioned him as being a bad move. Same with Girard. There seems to be about five bad moves for every Forsberg type move.

Did you see that last night on NBCSN? Milbury absolutely blasted Joey, Turris and Duchene for "lack of character" along with always under performing. He was flat out mad, I loved it. Someone has to say it.

John Hynes. Really? The same John Hynes that just got fired in New Jersey? Wow, that is a totally mind boggling hire. Poile must be completely giving up on the season.

Hynes looked good when he didn't have much to work with be it with injuries or roster, he had the team being competitive even when losing, but it seemed that he lost the team and couldn't get it back on track. Other than when Hall went on his crazy mvp run hynes was not getting results.

Nas the devils interim coach, who coached the D has looked better than hynes this year, and that's scary

No, but I wish I had. Even if it's from the lips of Milbury, who honestly I tend to mute or FF through whenever I see his gums start to flap. He's absolutely right in this case though. Good to see we're not the only ones who are noticing this crap.

Which is ridiculous in itself... Poile shouldn't have to have a previous relationship with someone to bring him in as a coach... (Similar situation to Lavy) Hopefully the hire is just a temporary stop-gap until the coach in Milwaukee they're really high on is ready to make the jump to the NHL. The league needs some new blood, rather than continually recycling every other teams discarded bench bosses.

I usually can't stand the guy, but he nailed it. I laughed out loud because Keith Jones was shocked, so was Tappen, as they tried to bring it back to "Can the Preds turn it around", Mike just kept interjecting, "No, because the players down the middle don't have the character or work ethic..." I should've recorded it.

As a Devils fan, I apologize in advance for the hell and all new level of crazy our old coach is going to bring. Get ready for the endless line combinations and stunted rookie growth, not o mention the defensive nightmare we experienced.

Personally, I think it's that group of players, which they THOUGHT they had fixed by sending Soupcan packing. They simply have not gotten over the loss in the SC finals against the Pens... you know, the finals the NHL and everyone else felt the Preds were ENTITLED to. They were celebrating in the streets and on NHL Network before it was even over.

Nope your at a whole new level with Hynes. Lavy at least had a winning record and NHL success. Very shocked he was brought back as a coach especially so quick with his record.

Honestly, It's un(frank)ingbelieveable.
Both that Hynes would get another NHL gig and that Nas has done better with the same team less their top player.

Sorry Nashville. Good luck!

Well we're going off the rails here, but since you started it... What's so wrong about a team and a fan base who'd never been in that atmosphere before getting excited about it? Not going to apologize because my team doesn't have decades of previous history and cups under their belt at the time. And what do you mean ENTITLED? Preds earned every win to get themselves into that position. I don't understand why so many Pitt fans are so butt-hurt about the media attention the Preds got turning those finals. Nobody was saying Nashville fans were better or more passionate than Pittsburgh fans. The league just wasn't accustomed to seeing that kind of atmosphere from a non-traditional market before. Quite frankly, the NHL barely acknowledged the teams existence until that point. To be fair, a good third of that crowd barely acknowledged the tams existence until that run, but often times a run like that is what you need to get your franchise over.

Make no mistake, I'm not just trying to rile up Preds fans for no good reason. But if you were somehow able to watch that series as a Pens' fan, you would most certainly understand my viewpoint. At the very least, the network should've been unbiased, and they were not in the least bit. And so maybe I was a little harsh on the fans there, as we in Pittsburgh have obviously lived both ends of the spectrum, from SC bliss to almost losing our beloved franchise.
As for off the rails, the point I was trying to make is sometimes a room just doesn't come back from such a defeat. Why? Because it's so hard to get there in the first place. And I think it's unfair to judge Hines before he's even stepped behind the bench. Something is clearly NOT right with the Preds, and has been for some time, and that's not Hines' doing.

No harm meant

Fair points, and I don't understand what it was like from a Pittsburgh viewpoint. To be honest, as a Preds fan I was actually a little annoyed with the NBC coverage of the team. More because they acted like all that support and atmosphere happened overnight, when in actuality it had been painstakingly building up for years to get to that point. The playoff run obviously revved things up to insane degrees, but the seeming bewilderment of the NBC crew just proved to me how little attention the national guys pay to smaller/non-traditional market teams. (That's fair though, you gotta give the league good reason to pay attention to you) Preds were the new toy that year, while the Pens had been their before and were a well-known quantity... Expected to be their while the Preds were more of a Cinderella story. That's likely more the reason for the skew in media coverage during those finals. Just like Vegas, and to a lesser extent, Winnipeg were the new toys the next year. If Arizona makes a serious run this year, NBC's going to have to start acknowledging they still exist. The media are like kids at Christmas... Everyone's fascinated by the shiny new toy.

Absolutely, and a couple seasons after, I can see the league's behavior more from a marketing standpoint, and less from a Pens' fan point of view. It is important to support the new(er) teams. But because we in PGH were also all riled up from a wild playoff run, it was so annoying, and it seemed like the network was acting like we didn't need to win it all again because we had just won it all the year before. The pregame coverages were insufferable for us, really.

In any event, good luck with Hines... I think he will do well there. I have no stats to back that up, just a good feeling. Something good needs to happen in NSH.
