When he took over he inherited Price, Markov, Subban and Pacioretty in their prime, how was he suppose to rebuild?? - obie
He could've still drafted good players... |

Wasn't he supposed to build a competitor? (He also started with a 3rd overall pick that flopped) |

he made 2 good trades 2 summers ago. other than that, all he has done is draft players and the jury is out on all of those players, including the one he took 3rd overall.
also, in terms of expectations, we're not the ones who set them. the organization set expectations by for the most part hanging on to their aging expensive veterans. if as an organization you're willing to experience a few lean years, why would you hang on to those players? you hang on to those players because you're trying to be good. that was his hedge and it has failed spectacularly. - DoubleDown
very true. they set objectives, fail, rinse and repeat.
they should both (Cj and MB) be fired the day after last game of the season.
and Timmins too btw. |

Yeah but that whole draft was...meh, especially for forwards...Aside from Forsberg, probably Hertl & Teravainen, and possibly Wilson & Athanasiou, I'm not sure there's a forward I take before Galchenyuk. |

Not a huge fan of his game but Morgan Reilly would look decent on the 1st pair LD right now...even at the cost of Domi |

Oh, for sure, there are defensemen who would have been better...but at the time, forwards were what was believed to be needed. Their last 2 1st rounders were future stars Beaulieu and Tinordi, and they still had Markov and Subban, plus prime Raphael Diaz and Josh Gorges, and Bouillon. |

so I ran the Tankathon this morning, just for fun.
1st try, Habs win and draft Lafreniere
they currently have a 20% chance of picking top 3. 40% to pick 8th. - fidopro

It is amazing how drafting 18 year olds to do something in their 20's gets decided on by immediate needs. No way that can play out poorly or show a lack of foresight |

Difference is they didn't pretend like they could make the playoffs every year, accepted the suckage and had better draft position than the Habs... |
