I was watching the game with a buddy who is president of the Nylander Haterz Club - he was absolutely losing his mind in the OT.

There were some slick useless dangles all over the place in OT, Matthews had a couple too.

Gotta just grind in OT

lay out some big hits

some nice puck battles

3 on 3 is no time for skill

It would be great if it was 3on3 but dangling through the legs in the offensive zone while your other two players are changing and three opponents are bearing down on you technically makes it 3on1

Ideally, you'd want to hold onto the puck until you can make a pass no?

It was such a stupid move.

What scares me most is them threatening to attack inside the US. That is what could effect innocent people that want nothing to do with it.

It makes me just want to move to Iceland and live the rest of my days as a fishermen

this guy is the accident I cant look away from.

Talking about Toronto...again

Grant McCagg
@grantmccagg
The popular misconception is that they "blew things up."
They didn't on lose on purpose..they ended up sucking because of incompetent management. There was no great sell off of vets for draft picks...they sucked two years and Matthews/Marner fell in their laps.

Grant McCagg
@grantmccagg
The Leafs had 16 top 90-picks between 2012-17 when they were supposedly blowing it up. That is less than 3 per year. The Habs have had 15 top-90 picks in the last 3 years...and will have at least 4 more in 2020. So...these calls to "blow it up like Toronto did" are silly.

So, the Leafs were pretty obviously trying not to win games in 2015-16.
and also after they Fired Carlyle in the 14-15 season.

And including 2012-2014 in the "Top 90 picks" makes no sense, that was the Burke/Nonis years where they had 17 total picks in 3 drafts.

Contrast that with the actual tank years 2015 and 2016 they had 20 picks in just 2 drafts.

the things that are true, the Leafs got lucky and got #1 (while tanking to get them the best chance) and the picks they ended up with fast tracked the rebuild for sure.

One of them went to my daughter's high school.

My daughter didn't know her, but the school was apparently a pretty miserable place to be. Teachers and students were crying.

Which brings up unhappy memories of when I lost a friend in the Air India bombing.

What the world needs now, is love, sweet love...

watching 3 on 3 I feel like its very much a different game that the players probably dont play a lot or practice. You just have to make stuff happen. there is odd man rushes both ways.

but if there is a time to try to be creative its 3v3 imo. its 5 mins of mayhem, where players go all out. I find it hard to really crap on plays during OT.. its just not the same game they practice all the time

When other teams draft a high end player at number 4 it is great drafting.

For the Leafs it is all luck

Plus Dubas has built around this core with plenty of late pick and undrafted players.

Being creative is great, but using "being creative" as an excuse for extremely poor decision making when points are on the line isn't great.

I'm going to go the opposite here:

3 on 3 is all about patience and puck possession. I don't want to see Willy going all willy-nilly.

Quit trying to force stuff. At 3 on3, stuff will naturally unfold.

nothing ended up being decided, so they went to the SO which is worse in terms of deciding points.

id rather they go balls out and try to win in OT like they did

not every play is going to work, same for the Jets

I agree with Wedge on this, 3 on 3 you need to be patient and not force things. If you make a mistake it will be an odd man rush chance against.
