Me either, but we sort of spotted them a cushion and it may be a tall ask for all 3 to collapse. We have alot of games left vs the Flyers and Columbus, those are almost all must win games. |

Fast needs to be moved on from. I know he's done alot here, but that's easy fat to cut.
The dead money situation isn't as dire as it looks, Shattys dead cap goes up about 5 million, but G's cap hit goes down, we don't have to bury Belesky anymore, and the cap should go up a bit.
We won't have 3 goalies next year I can almost guarantee it
Lias is probably traded, but I could see us playing hardball. it's not like he can go to another team. We've already seen with pool party and Honka, teams aren't giving in.
I think just this year as a development year for a young guys, may improve us enough to put us in the playoff race next year. Chytil is really coming in his own and guys like Fox have rounded out nicely. If just a couple progress, we will be better. - 2sticks1puck
Disagree, he is probably our best defensive forward on a team we constantly complain about not playing defense. I will say it till I'm blue in the face, you need players like that in your bottom 6 |

From a cap perspective it just doesn't make sense to pay those guys. Look at Hags, he might be one of the best bottom 6 players in the entire league, but he is constantly moved around because of his contract and the teams are just going to pay skill guys first. Fast makes a shade under 2 million a year, in the open market he might get 3. I just don't see how a cap smart team can afford to pay him that kind of money. It's not even like we would be in contention next year. He's also approaching 30. I just think you could find someone who does 90% of what Fast does for a fraction of the price and use the savings for your real core players. |

My opinion was pretty clear this past offseason. I was beating the "trade Fast" drum loud. I completely retract those statements. Fast is a player that fills in the cracks. I think he is helping Panarin stay in the o-zone with his forecheck, and when Panarin is on the offensive, he makes things happen. I'm all for keeping him simply for that reason. He is easily our best forechecker.
Kreider and Skjei are the two guys I would look to move. More Skjei than Kreider, but I think CK20 is a cap casualty unfortunately. |

That was kind of my argument though. So was Hags. Hags is often the first casualty among teams and objectively he's way superior to Fast. They are nice players to have, but I'm not breaking to bank for a guy like that who is somewhat replaceable if it means that someone like ADA who might be a legitimate franchise cornerstone is an expense. It just isn't smart. |

Hi Jan---
Just curious what your take was on the 3rd Devils goal? I am familiar with the rule they cited but still haven't seen ANY replay showing the puck went over the line regardless of where the net was. |

Skjei, Smith, and Buch. Kreider if he is asking way to much. If they could get Fast for 2.5-2.7 you keep no problem |

Really??
I am surprised by that, because there has been so much talk to the contrary for so long and I've never seen that info, that I can remember.
Makes sense, though. - Tonybere
As someone who has seen an NHL Player contract, can confirm. Viewed one for a Flames player and the pay was in USD. |

I get what you're saying, but I think they're very different players. Hags' game was predicated on speed and speed only. Once he got the puck, he often didn't know what to do with it. Fast's game is built on positioning/smarts and board play. He doesn't just keep the play alive, but often makes the right play to keep the play alive. I don't think Fast's game is as replaceable as Hags.
Also, who's to say that they'll have to break the bank on Fast. Maybe he takes a raise to $2.5M per. Sign me up if that's the case. |

Has anyone seen a video of the puck crossing the line? That's the only reason I can think it was considered a good goal. |

I still think 2.5 is too much. That being said, the key difference is Fast is a UFA, maybe they could lock him up for that during the season, but i really do think someone would pay him 3 million and then instantly regret it. I also think that with the number of forwards coming up, you kind of want that 3rd line spot for a guy like Kravs if he makes the roster next year. A Lemeiux-Chytil-Kravs third line could be absolutely deadly. Next year I'd imagine Kakko is consistently top 6. We also have Howden who seems better at wing than at center who can play on the 4th line. Guys like Mckegg,Boo, etc are guys that are always available on the cheap and can fill out that fourth line. There is no scenario where I want to pay a guy 2+ million to be on the 4th line and if I do, I want it to be someone like Grabs who could score on a breakaway at any moment (which Hags could create too)
I just think Fast is someone who a) would get paid too much for what he is and b) could legitimately block the progression of prospects. Use his spot to try out guys like Kravs and even Barron and see how they progress. |

Totally get your point. I just think any of those young guys replacing Fast is a big step back from a positioning stand point.
$2.5M for a 2/3-line tweener isn't bad at all and that's where Fast has been played for a couple of years now. He doesn't have the "skill" to play there, but he plays the supportive role better than anyone in the organization to set those skill guys up.
All that said, if another team is going to pay a first or early second for him...seeeeeeeeeeeeeya |

look at some of those responses - how does he think he is to not speak to the head of the organization? speaking through his agent like he's a superstar holding out for a new contract. |

I don't want to mock mental health if he is really having issues, it just seems like that card was played as a way to save face. What I see with Lias is a kid that had no response when he got punched in the mouth. Everything was all gravy until he actually had to work for something and it didn't come easy. |
