Buffalo needed to trade a defenseman. They had too many and every other team knew it. It must've depressed their value.

Might as well just have Bergevin lace them up and come out of retirement.

I think you also need to look at the games individually to see if there's proof that the "system has been cracked".

In game 1 against Colorado, the Leafs were a bit better, but Game 2 was really decided by Special Teams. The Leafs outshot Colorado 39-29 in that game. In terms of scoring and high danger chances, it was a very even game. Colorado is a very good team, I wouldn't expect to go in and dominate them.

In game 2 against the Rangers, the Leafs dominated. Freddy crapped the bed in that one.

In game 2 against the Oilers, I don't think they made any significant adjustments. I think the Leafs came out thinking they had the game. From the moment the puck was dropped they were flat footed and slow and Edmonton was winning the puck early and often.

In game 2 against the Jets, the Leafs were clearly the better team. That's what made that game so frustrating. We crushed them in chances and high danger chances. They crushed in OT chances, but it shouldn't have gone to OT.

They will be unloading more talent soon. Sabres have missed the playoffs 8 years in a row and counting. 7 straight top ten picks including a first and two second overalls. Only comparables are the Oilers and the Devils. St Louis has their phone lines open, looking to add the next Ryan O'Reilly. Remember what the Sabres got for him?

I had to look. I would never have guessed. I'd have gone through at least 80 names first. Maybe more.

So Jets have the best cup hopes in Canada.

Funny how Leafs' D is so bad they'll nevers niff a cup, but Winnipeg can win it this year with that D>

BTW Burkie, the Jets won't make the playoffs.

Yup. Acciari. His name just wouldn't come to my mind at all. Not like he's a nobody, but . . .

So, you're saying it's sustainable... Just like Jeff Skinner last season?

Disagree - decent coach, goalie has been solid, they have a really good forward group, Schiefele, Wheeler, Connor, Ehlers are all studs, Laine is a terrific talent with one on the best shots in hockey. No one said much but Laine's shootout goal against Freddy was really amazing. For me, the Jets are in.

I went to school with him so I keep tabs. Plus I've noticed it in fantasy hockey. That and I know he gets like 0 PP time and how the question was formulated I figured it was an obscure player
