The games they played against the Isles recently and the Blues before that showed they can play a different game. It's a process.
- Zezel

The Blues game is not a good example because they just got back from a road trip and were not there usual selves, they didn’t play good.

Agains the Isles we were okay. But that was a strange game. I didn’t think we were great, but we won so ...

Maybe we just need to load up the top line with Johnny, Auston, and Mitchy?

It’s like Bostons top line but 3 times more expensive?

And in the playoffs against the B's ...they played nice 5v5 playoff hockey.

I feel like it's a young team that's mostly lazy and frustrating but is able to push the 'go' button when they want.

The Leafs are a teenager ...

You could tell early on that they didn't have it. I sort of turned my attention away at 2-0, and told my wife she could watch what she wanted at 3-0.

Since there's been so much female doging about the goaltending, I looked at the goals and here was my take on them:

Goal 1: Kapanen loses his man coming off of the point and gives him free access to the net for the one-timer in. Grade 'A' Andersen may save that, but it's tough since Brown peels off from the point to Andersen's left, and Connolly has the puck down low to Andersen's right. The puck does deflect off of Andersen's arm, but it goes in.
Verdict: Not Goalie

Goal 2: Pass from the behind the net goes through Barrie to Barkov who is standing between Gauthier and Spezza. Neither of whom were doing anything about him, despite him being on the lip of the crease.
Verdict: Not Goalie

Goal 3: 2 on 1 due to poor play in the neutral zone by Kerfoot, and Hoffman beats Andersen clean to the blocker side. Marincin did effectively take away the pass.
Verdict: Goalie, but only because it's Andersen and he's good enough to stop that most of the time.

Goal 4: A low Mike Matheson shot from the point beats a screened Andersen.
Verdict: Goalie.

Andersen's night is done. My opinion here? Goal 3 beats a lot of goalies, but it is also saved a lot of the time. It's a coin flip shot. You use it to credit the goalie when your team wins and you use it to blame the goalie when your team loses. Goal 4 is the shot that's beaten Andersen in his last 3 starts. A screened shot from the left point. I don't think Andersen is fighting through the screen enough. He has to get low on those and look through legs if he can't see up high. He's been too complacent about losing sight of pucks the past few games. In the previous two games he was trying to peer for the puck the wrong way (you have a left-hand shot defenseman at the left point with a puck on their left side, and he's trying to peer to the right over shoulders and can't see anything when a seeing eye shot comes on the left-side. . . if you can't see it to the left, get low and look through legs). This one, Andersen looked the right way, but it was very obvious he had lost sight of the puck and wasn't compensating with body position.

Goal 5: 2 on 1 due to poor zone entry on the Power Play. As with all 2 on 1s he faces, Barrie doesn't bother taking away the pass which leads to a goal against. It's at this point through 46 games that I may have to retract some preseason comments I made to Aminnes and JFJ Jr about Barrie being about the same as Gardiner on D. I believe there is a massive hole in Barrie's game and our style of play really exposes it.
Verdict: Not Goalie

Goal 6: Another 2 on 1 due to Tavares failing to recognize his role on the blue line with Dermott in deep. It's a good shot that beats Hutch. A better goalie would have stood a better chance. The minor plus side . . .Holl played the 2 on 1 effectively.
Verdict: Not Goalie; I might argue goalie (like goal 3) if the goalie was better.

Goal 7: Turnover in the neutral zone; Dermott overplays it and gets beat. Rielly doesn't block the pass on the 2 on 1.
Verdict: Not Goalie

Goal 8: This is just poor goaltending by Hutch. Huberdeau passes the puck to the right side, and Hutch reads it as a shot and drops leaving the net wide open.
Verdict: Goalie

Really, goal 8 is the only 1 that I will totally absolutely say is completely on the goalie. I would like to see Andersen battle through the screen on goal 4, and I believe that Andersen when he's confident stops goal 3.

1st 4 all tough IMO, 4th goal and there’s 3-4 guys screening Freddie - the 2 on 1 short side maybe he should have had, but a 2 on 1 giving lots of time and space to FLA’s best shooter. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Bring on NJ, this game should get their mojo back, both in net and our D

How about we just give JT Marner back, Auston can do most things with anyone...JT’s a shooter and needs a setup man, he’s never been the greatest skater.

I can't wait till I start to hear people say to sign Andersen for 8 years/8-10 million per.
